It was, i was Getting ready to build a iron 370 when i found it.. i figured i may as well get the ls3 itl cost cheaper then the 370 to build at that price. Right now ive built a brand new ls3, intake to oil pan for under $6000 it has cnced heads, cam, hv oil pump, prc eht .675 springs, holley fuel rails, lme billit 24x reluctor, billit timing chain, hardened push rods brand spanking new! nothing has ever been used.

False. All LS2 blocks are ALUMINUM.
Stronger? Depends. It takes A LOT of boost better, but most people will never make enough power to hurt the aluminum blocks and you'll hurt it with an NA build unless you grenade the guts.
...WHAT???
Iron 6.0's are in trucks and hummers, but they're not an Ls2.
That's the common misconception I see and the reason this thread was created in the first place. The size of the motor is not what designates it as an "Ls2". I mean...it partially does but the block construction also plays a roll. Iron and aluminum are not the same to me.
Let's say I purchase an Ls2 for $4k and when it arrives I come to find out I actually just bought some $1K boat anchor I'm going to be pretty upset.
The head casting is another difference.
Close, but no. Some of the Lq's came with a 799 casting which is actually identical to the 243. AND other came with an iron 317 casting.
...WHAT???
coming from a 05 it would probably be a LQ9 or LQ4 I think the lq4 has dished pistons and less compression and coming out of a truck it will more than likely be a iron block.
"Technically" I think all ls2s are aluminum but the lq9 and lq4 are iron and have the same bore so you could just call it a ls2 no big deal

The lq9 is flat top pistons, the lq4 is dished and the only difference between the ls2 and lq9/lq4 is the ls2 is aluminum and about 100lbs lighter.
But be aware they are the same but at 100lbs heavier youl notice the car in turns etc will have more sway. Honestly ill go for the 100 lbs lighter then having a little stronger block!

All LS2 engines are aluminum and are GEN4, front cam sensor and knock sensors on the side of the block vs the valley. And starting in Late 06 switched to 58x. If its an LQ4/LQ9 it is a GEN3 and 24x. The LQ9 had the same rotating assembly as an LS2, flat top pistons, floating pin rods and rolled/filleted crankshaft and were 10.1 compression with 317 heads. LS2s could come with 243 or 799 heads and were 10.9 compression because of the smaller chambers. So people usually refer to an LQ9 as an iron LS2 but it really isnt.
