Default Cam/I vs.H/C/I

Decided to stay NA (22?/23?/112-114 Range cam)......can anyone (with experience) tell me the differance in these two set ups? As in......are aftermarket heads worth the money (street driven car)? Looking to make a nasty, torquey street beast...

That's up to you, your setup, and your goals...To some, thousands of $$ on heads for that extra HP they want is worth it and to others it's not worth it. Upgrading heads, whether it be a used set of upgraded LS heads or porting is a little more cost efficient and can yield nice gains and is another great option. You definiately want your heads to match your cam though no matter what you decide to do. Lots of great vendors here who will take care of ya

If you want torque and nasty, a good set of heads will make a huge difference. The right set of heads will add alot more torque under the curve than any cam out there.

I understand that they are beneficial to have paired w/ the cam specs....but as a rule how much hp/tq would be left on the the table? From what I have read, reworking ls2 heads are not worth the money. I would be using tf220 heads w/ a Brian tooley speced cam. But if I'm only leaving 20hp/tq on the table....then that is not worth $2k+....

You also need to consider the cam lift you're looking at. Stock heads won't benefit from lift above .550" nearly as well as a good set of cnc ported aftermarket(or stock) heads will. If you stick with stock ls2 heads then at least get them milled to get the SCR up to 11.0:1 for more hp/tq.

From what I have read, reworking ls2 heads are not worth the money.
Where are you reading that?

AI or TEA heads can gain you 30-50rwhp on top.

Not that the tea or ai ported 243's are bad! But if you are going to spend $1500 to get those ported/miled/ect, then it's better to pay another $5-700 and just go aftermarket.

Who's spending $1500 for those heads? You can get a pair for under $1000 including the heads and springs. I paid $750 for a pair of TEA ones.

And even if you do pay $1500 for those heads (that will gain you 40rwhp on their own), is the extra $700 worth another 10-15rwhp? To me that part is not worth it lol unless I'm going for a CRAZY setup where every single hp is needed.

Probably the same as up top compared to the as cast 220s, depending on the compression. You can mill the ported 243s to make up some under the curve power.

You can send your 243s to AI and have them milled and cnc ported with a valve job for right around $1k.

Put some Z06 243's on it op. You can find them used pretty reasonable ($450~)and they would net you 25~hp. The light weight valves will help it rev higher and allow the use of 1.8 rockers.

What do those heads come from? C5 z06? If so,that's a smaller bore...
