Default LSX454 camshaft, will you consider it as a mild cam?

I'm looking for an engine that would give me 500-550 RWHP and yet be used as a daily driver with good idle characteristics and would pass our local emissions test (for classic cars it should be less than 4.5% CO and 1200 PPM HC), this is the cam specs as per GM site :

Maximum lift is 0.600/0.600" with 1.7-ratio rockers and 0.635/0.635" with 1.8-ratio rockers. Duration is 236 degrees on the intake side and 246 degrees on the exhaust side, with a 110-degree separation angle

what I'm concerned about is the tight LSA of 110*, yet a few guys consider it as a "mild" cam!

For the people who used or have an in-sight idea about the GM LSX-454 crate engine, do you recommend it as per my criteria?

I just tuned a lsx 454 with this cam and its idle was very rough and lumpy, its definatley not the the biggest cam for a 454 tho

Thats what I was worried about. What kind of a cam shall be considered as street friendly for this engine?

While there's a lot of valuable information on this site, your best bet would be to get with a custom cam designer and go over your build in detail with them. Be honest with yourself, and the designer about your goals. I've heard customs spec'd on a 114 that sound rowdy as hell.

It's all about manipulating valve events and cylinder pressures when it comes to cams.

I'd strongly recommend Brian Tooley or Pat G.

Talk to a cam expert for a custom grind to suit your goals. I would say the cam you have suggested is about 10 degrees to big. Something like a 22x/23x 115 would be in the ballpark IMHO.

Def. need less duration on the intake side and the Lobe sep should be in the 116 area to tame it down some...

I strongly agree with talking to Brian Tooley.
I run an ERL 447 with BTR TFS 245's and his spec'd cam and I love it.
my specs are 251/262 .623/.596 114+4 has a lumpy idle, but drives great.

I spoke with Allen from BT Racing regarding a custom grind for a LSX454 and they came up with 234/246 .648/.630 115+3, what I need from this engine is a smooth idle at around 700-800 rpm with A/C on, and yet can generate 500-550 RWHP. What do you guys think about it?
