Default 10 degrees overlap for Ls3 DD

Would there be any noticeable surging or any other driveability issues with 10 deg overlap on a stock compression ls3?

With a good tune, you shouldn't have any. There's plenty of big cammed ls3's on the street with more overlap and no issues. Granted I only have 7 degrees of overlap but I have mine idling 750 and no surging or bucking issues on a stock stall. Just took me quite a few hrs. on getting the drivability down pat but Im pretty new to tuning/hp tuners. A good tuner should have it purring like a kitten.

A 10* overlap cam in a manual trans car will have a lot of low RPM/light throttle surge & buck. But will drive nice with an auto trans & a 4000 stall torque converter.

I have about 15 degrees overlap (@.050") in a cathedral headed 6.2L and it doesn't really buck or surge. 6 speed car too. PatG did the tuning, so I think a good tuner is the key to getting good street manners.

Tuning is key. But it can be tuned with that much overlap to reduce or eliminate any surging or bucking. You need someone that is willing to tune the driveability not just a WOT tune.

What cam are you considering? What does the rest of your build look like?

I ask because there are a number of VERY good cams with even less than 10* overlap that can deliver what you may be looking for.

That said....10* overlap is VERY tuneable.

I daily drive an auto LS3 with 9 degrees of overlap and a manual LS2 with 13 degrees.

Until my LS3 swap on my 95 Impala is complete, I'm daily driving an 22* overlap cam in my 2014 SS.

But then.....I'm not running stock displacement......so there's that.
