Default Harmonic Balancer Bolt Question - Stock GM Replacement or ARP ???

I am currently doing an LS swap in my car. The motor is a 6.0 LS engine with a BTR stage 2 turbo cam, ls9 head gaskets, ARP head studs, possibly going with a FAST intake along with a 102 big mouth tb and some other goodies.

The truck balancer was removed and I am running a f-body balancer in its place.

I have read that some balancer bolts have been known to walk out? I have a ARP balancer bolt, but was thinking about just getting a stock bolt to replace with.

What do you guys recommend? Should I use the ARP bolt or go with a factory GM bolt? Is one better then the other?

Thanks!

I personally used an arp bolt + their provided & recommended lube, no dramas for the last 2 years. There was a bit more thread to grip with too which gives a little more peace of mind.

I wouldn't think there's anything wrong with using a factory bolt either... look at all the cars using a factory bolt... lmao! Just remember to use locktite.

5 Stock GM bolts in 4 different engines with ASP pulley. Never had a problem. Never read of any real issue on GM forums.

Never had a arp come loose. But I also follow the recommended torque spec. I also seal the head and washer with rtv to prevent leaks.

The ones that walk out are installed improperly. You'll be fine either bolt you decide on.

The only problems I've seen with the factory bolt is when it's reused. Being a TTY bolt, it should be one and done. As far as a new factory bolt, there should be no issues.

If you ever plan on taking the bolt out again to change balancers, pin the crank etc. etc. then go with the ARP it will be cheaper in the long run.

Aftermarket bolts are better in the long run as far as cost. Jegs , Summit and SDPC have there own brands which are a little cheaper. I don't use any of the TTY bolts on my builds. Good fasteners are cheap insurance.
