What should i look to pay for a used lq4/lq9 block?
went to 2 local junk yards and they all want a few k for a truck pull out non running. im starting to look around on craigslist but pickins seem to be slim near me. i found a short block for 850. seems kind of high , but maybe im off my rocker. what do you guys think ?

For the block itself a couple hundred dollars if it's a 10 year old unit.
For that one though with only 20k miles and being a 2010 that's a pretty damn good deal. You can end up selling the rotating assembly and accessories for a few hundred.

A couple hundred? A new iron 6.0 bare block is $1100 from a GM dealer, 1050 from Summit. A good used bare block if you can find one is $500 or so, I sold one for 600 a few months ago and it was the only one on SF CL, got lots of offers for trades etc.. 5.3 irons are going for a couple hundred. LQ blocks are at a premium. If you buy one in short block form remember you're getting a lot of scrap metal with it.

300-400 is usually the going rate from what I see

Honestly, out west here, there are NO 6.0 iron blocks cheaper than 500, if I found one for 3-400, i'd ****** it up and re sell it. l know a guy who bought a new one for his TT truck swap and payed a bunch for it. Wrecking yards around here won't sell bare block blocks.
I'm with you, no blocks in my area below $500, some want $600. Hell, I can buy a brand new one down the street at Summit for a grand.
Around my area they are nearly impossible to find. On my last build, I bought a GMPP aluminum block because I could not find an iron 6 liter.
There are typically 2-3 local engine builders here on Craig's List advertising that they will buy any LS engine running or not.

Guess it depends on what part of the country you live in. The sand rail crowd out here have driven the price up some and swaps into older cars as well. I went to a car show and many of the 55-57 Chevy's were powered by some sort of LS with A/C and fuel injection.
I have a "well-seasoned" LQ4 block for $250, but I'm in S. Florida and nobody even bit when I listed on CL...I'm not about to ship this thing. It just sitting in my garage if you want it Speedtigger.
Damn. I even had an ad in the classifieds when I was looking. Nobody had anything when I needed it.
