370 Build

Marked where the pick up is going to land at.
Severely overkilled this one....
Need to notch the corner of one door to clear the drain plug boss and install my door travel limiters and that will be done. Did the bathtub water test and it does what I wanted it to do.

So needless to say, all the above got scrapped. The pick up is now 1.5” further back than it was so a new, quick, fast, and in a hurry trap door was made. Had I not been in a hurry, it wouldn’t have had much of any welding on it and I would have made it in the metal brake. It’s done now and you can’t see it with the pan on.
Having a mock up block sure helps. Since this picture was taken, I have capped the sides of the piece added to extend the pickup leg. This maintains the channel shape of the factory piece.
Like I said, not my finer work by any means but I’m moving on. Should I ever have it back off, I will make it again.

Scored an intake finally. already had the throttle body I had purchased early on. So far those were about the only two items on this build I was able to get a “deal” on. As to be expected, the top of the intake flange didn’t clear the ledge on the head. About 4 gentle minutes of a flap disc on the 4.5” grinder, and it now fits. Just need to get some gaskets and bolts and lock it down.

Just got this in the mail so I guess we are about to start building a harness. Mapping out exactly what I want to do wiring wise with my 2 extra inputs lol. Looks like I will be able to monitor both fuel pressure and am adding a flex fuel sensor to keep an eye on my content. I also have an AEM 400 pump coming. Hopefully it will keep up. If not, I will add a second one. That’s one of the reasons for monitoring fuel pressure initially.

Getting closer. Sorry for no updates but I have been chipping away at it. Hopefully if all goes well I may try to fire it next weekend. I ended up modifying my crossmember for f body pan clearance with a diaper also. It’s something I have wanted to do on this car for a long time. Here is where we are at as of right now.

Thanks Lance. If and when I have the pan back off I will look into doing that. I hope this thing lives for a while and I don’t have to go back in there for a couple seasons.

Well, it’s alive. All seems well. After another start or two I will cut the filter open and examine. It almost started too easy. I started tweaking the ve table after that and it got much more responsive. I have a long way to go learning the efi stuff but it’s a start.

Just an update, made a pass. Motor seems to be fine and she is still lively at 7500 rpm. The time was terrible but we had a couple problems and now the Transmission is apart on the floor. Something isn’t happy and I believe it to be the front pump. I am running a borrowed converter that is so far from optimal I can’t even explain but let’s just say 1900 rpm drop on the shift, lol. Stay tuned more to come.

Saw something else I wasn’t satisfied with. Block went to the machine shop and got “straightened “ out. Will r assemble and try again. No big harm done at all luckily.
