Default Viper Pushrods in LS3?

I know it sounds weird but I was curious if there was any reason they wouldn't work (assuming they're the right length).

Long story short, I want to fit a double tapered 3/8" pushrod and it needs to be at least 7.600" long. The straight 3/8" binds and clearancing the pushrod holes is not really an option for me.

If they aren't compatible, is there a company that makes a set at a good price? I can get a set of 20 from a reputable brand for $344.

Thanks for any help!

Would they be tapered where they go thru the pushrod hole? If where they go thru the hole is part of the straight 3/8 section, it won't work if you don't want to clearance the hole. There is a thread here somewhere, where the holes were clearanced with a drill a little bigger than 3/8". No rocket science involved here....

I'm pretty confident the double taper will clear it. My concern is mainly about the ends. I'm note sure if there's a particular style that I need to look for.

Believe it or not, I took the heads off to get the holes clearanced. The machine shop tried to drill a hole all the way through and cut into the intake runners in the process (these are AFR heads). Long story short, there are now sleeves pressed into the holes and I'm worried about drilling into those.

The AFR heads were not mentioned in your first post. It IS possible to drill stock heads, which I thought you had. What is the ID of the sleeves? Why do you think you need a 3/8 pushrod? Most applications can easily use an 11/16.

The sleeved holes are 0.43". Unsleeved are 0.48".

I don't think I necessarily need 3/8", but I've already nearing $2k invested into the valvetrain so might as well get a good set of pushrods too. 11/32" were next on my list for test fitting if these Viper ones won't work out.

What put me on this path was the writeup by vettenuts on the CorvetteForum. We're both using AFR heads with the same pushrod brand.

Do what WORKS for YOU. Don't just do something because someone else is. If 11/32" will do it for you, use that.

BTR has 11/32" pushrods for about $110.

@G Atsma I agree 100%. His post was just showed there was a possibility of a double tapered fitting. It's also a pretty good comparison of the effects of wall thickness and diameter on stiffness.

@KCS I was looking at them earlier today! Unfortunately the length skips right over the range my adjustable rockers can compensate.
