Default LY6 Bearings Check?

I purchased an LY6 a while back and was told it was in working condition but after i busted into it, I noticed it was really dirty and had lots of sludge. I wanted to see if bearings are good but wasn't sure if it was ok to unbolt rods/main caps and reuse them if they're good.

if i can take of rod/main caps and reuse bearings with no issues please lmk ( of course if they are bad i know they will have to be replaced)

You could, I've done it. But if I'm that deep in the motor unless they are pristine, I'd likely replace them for the money.
If the motor is dirty inside so are the lifters.. just sayin..

I hate pulling engines,, I've done it a lot at the track, but I always try and reduce the odds that I have to do it again..

^^^^^^This^^^^^^^^ Bearings are too cheap to skimp here. You want to jeopardize your engine because the old bearings looked "OK"?

new bearings require machine work don't it?

I had to change out the dod/vvt stuff with 3 bolt cam and supporting mods to go with the conversion.

But I'm not experienced when it comes to changing bearings. Correct me if I'm wrong but it will need to go to machine shop won't it?

Uhh... no.... mains and rods slip into place, cam must be pressed in.
Anyone who has ever been around engines would know this...

Smartass!

I know they slip in but wasn't sure if they needed some type of machine work or something. I guess all the research I've seen has been on spun bearing engines, which requires some type machine work . I've done the basic Heads and cam stuff but never touched crank or rods.

Thanks anyways

If it's just straight bearing replacement, no machine work required...

I also always check the main/crank bore, stock blocks can be surprisingly out of alignment..
Way less that a grand can buy a lot at a good machine shop to just check things over, do some cleanup
(Machine work and just power cleaning the block, Dyekem Magnaflux etc...).
