Almost looks like an oil pump bypass plug that holds the spring and plunger in but I don't remember any coming with a square insert

I found this on here
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ock-plugs.html

Its not a square insert, looks like insert was stripped and a 1/4 inch drive was hammered in, I can’t remember doing that though

Well than who else is doing work in your shop!!! We must catch the perp who murdered that plug! Is it possible it was already modified before you removed it? I have not read up on this entire build log so I am unsure if you replaced these or not.

There are no threaded plugs inside the covers as an OEM package…which I know full well Mickey yours isn’t exactly OEM. There are 3 threaded plugs on the outside of the block, but they have a lip on them for sealing…2 for oil passages and 1 for coolant. There is also another 17mm large plug on the outside of the block for a coolant passage plug.
Perhaps Mick your valley towers are threaded and plugged with 1/4” pipe plugs? I do this a lot for better oil control…
My guess is that it’s something already on the bench and got mixed into the parts lot accidentally.

It's not the one on the front l/h lower side of the block? Side of block, not front like shown above. Main oil feed, typically blocked

I don't see a spot where it would use that style plug. As mentioned most have lip on them and a hex bit to remove them.

It’s a 5/8 hole, and seeing tho I have a 5/8 threaded plug left over I’d say that’s where it goes.
The machine shop must hv removed it
