ZL1 with LS7 heads issue

Default ZL1 with LS7 heads issue

All,

Contemplating buying a 13-15 ZL1. I was wondering did the LS7 built during this time have the same valve drop/head issue that the 2006-2010 Corvette Z06 with the LS7 had? Or did GM finally fix this issue?

I've heard some horror stories of the Z06's dropping a valve and needing engine replacement.

All LS7 have the issues. There have been reports from every year

ZL1 have LSA heads so you are safe there.

Yup, Chevrolet built them in 2013 and 14. Less HP and more money than a ZL1. Plus, they need head work from the get go.

While true, saying less HP and more money is a massive oversimplification of the difference between the cars.

The Z28 is 300-500 lbs less than the ZL1, and has much bigger brakes, it has some aero bits for helping it stick in the corners, the suspension is much better for cornering, and there's a bunch of other small changes to make it handle better. The idea is that it's supposed to be ready for an HDPE at a road course straight from the factory.

This is correct. Theres a huge disconnect as of lately between the understanding of NA purpose built cars and Boosted set ups. Theres a reason Chevy built both of these cars in thier line up. Id like to own em both...for different reasons of course. Theres never a bad side to owning anything with a sbc that is clocking in at 427ci in NA form. Unless you live your life 1/8-1/4 mile at a time!

There is nothing wrong with a small block 427 even if you DO love your life 1/4 mile at a time.
