What is a good price for a core L92 motor? There are a couple in my area for $950. one looks complete w/o accessories. The other is a long block. I’m not sure of the condition. Externally, they both look fine.

🤔 a new bare Ls3 block runs $1k
😉. I'm more of a F the factory soft parts.. I just need the hard parts: block and heads
Now If you wanna get specific: Google (Local and National) L92 salvage engine cost & Do the math 👍.
if possible do the normal used engine inspection, check the oil for contamination IE* metal, 💦 etc....

Not that it matters, but I paid $650 for a complete L92 in November. Upon disassembly and measurement, it's a good piece.
I happen to live in an area where rusted out/crashed trucks with perfectly good running gear are everywhere. We have an oversupply in NH; hence basic economics dictate price..
Our infinitely wise state DOT still uses halite(rock salt, NaCl) to treat roads during winter snow events, if which there are many.
YMMV. It's very much an issue of geography and timing, i.e. motivated seller, season.

Honestly, anything 6.2 or even 6.0 goes for a bundle, at least here in California. You pretty much can’t get a decent pullout LS3 for under $5000. I never understood these prices, as they are SO close to new GM crate motors. L92s don’t seem to be the most common thing around in these parts. Not that these trucks don’t exist here. FAR from it! But I guess that, when they don’t rust out and they are driven by soccer moms (ie not wrecked like Camaros and Vettes), they last a good long time.
The bottom line here? Take prices you see on forums like this with a grain of salt. Just because someone here managed to pick up a pristine engine or short block for a song, this doesn’t mean that there are LOTS of similar deals out there.

I’ve sold used LS3 blocks for $1200, ( about half of new) not sure where you get new ones for $1000. I did buy one a some years back from Summit when they were $1525, that was 2 price increases ago.
