I just started assembly of my first engine. I used Durabon cam bearings, and King mains. I got one of the last BTR v1 truck cams. I thought it was going to be a 3 bolt cam, but it turned out to be one bolt. So, I reused the stock cam gear and bolt.
The cylinders needed a light hone due to rust. It sat for a while before I bought it. There are still some scratches that wouldn't come out. Do my cylinders look ok to use?
Make sure everything has been cleaned. Cylinder walls, all mating surfaces, all oil passages and is rust free before assembly. A dial bore gauge, micrometer, calipers will give you a exact clearance so you know what oil to run. Don’t forget to set/check the thrust bearing clearance.
The vertical scratches just look like they are from the old rings. They should be okay as long as you can’t catch a finger nail in them. Can’t see the angle of the cross hatch very well.
Yeah, I kinda lost track of this post. I didn't really make an official "Build Thread". So, yeah. Now it's for sale. It is listed in the classified section here.
It's just a BTR stage-2 truck cam in a mostly stock 5.3L. I ported the heads, which is covered in another thread here. Nothing special, really. It's my first build, but I want to do more. Gotta sale this one first.
