Default L94 from a written off 2011 Esc. - help determining condition

Hey all, I just recently bought a L94 out of a 2011 Escalade that was written off, harness to pedal. It had zero oil leaks and showed signs of previous work, including AFM/VVT delete and heat tabs on the heads. The odo read 378k km/ 235k miles. I got the thing home and did a cold compression test on a stand and all cylinders read between 210 and 230 psi. I scoped it and it looks like it has Mahle flycut flattops in it. There still is crosshatching on the cylinder walls along with some vertical wear/scratching. From below I found some marks on the camshaft that looks like T232 and 020; there also appears to be a bit of wear on the lobes. Looks like a stock crank, but the 823 heads appear to have a bit of porting done to them? The springs have no marking/paint and I am unsure how to tell if they have had a trunnion upgrade etc. My guess is this thing was rebuilt at some point, now I am trying to identify the parts/camshaft and opinions on wear without having to tear it down further if I don't have to. I have attached some pics, you will see some oil in the cylinder that had leaked in during transport.

I have a 91 Z28 that I am putting this into with a T56. My goal is to drive this thing like it supposed to be, so once I get a better idea of the engine I will be figuring out what parts I will need to run it hard (weekend warrior).

fly cut? I have never seen a piston with just 1 relief. No visible markings, so not sure if its been bored out?

ported?

103LC03 pistons? I could'nt find any info on them.

Ported?

Looks like T232 020?

Normal cam wear?

It might be the lighting in the pic, but that cam lobe looks ground down.

Y, horrible lighting, I don't think the lobe is ground off, but it def has some wear.

Put a micrometer on it. Most times, things look much worse than they are. I'll bet the cam is still serviceable. You would probably be surprised at how good a .001" hone out of a cylinder would make a cylinder look like! Nobody likes scores, but they usually look worse than they are.

Default Tear it down!!

So I decided to tear this thing down some more and this is what I found. The blocked is 20 over with .50 Mahle OEM type pistons #2243760. The bores look fairly clean, the wear marks are minor enough that I can't catch a nail on any of them. It's got a 3 bolt cam 2871 X with a bit of wear on several lobes. Maybe a Dynotec cam? Haven't really found any info yet.

Should I be concerned about the 20 over bore? Should I get it sonic checked? I was hoping use a 150 shot nos. I know these 6.2 blocks have pretty thin walls

I will finish tearing it down and send it to the machine shop to get it all checked out and then decide what parts to replace. At a minimum i will be replacing the cam, lifters, springs to better support my 500hp+ goal.

Cant find any info on this cam yet.

A bit of wear.

Def has had some 'massaging'

A bit of wear.

That cylinder wall marking is normal. I’d ball hone the block if you can’t feel anything. Those heads have been CNC ported, and then someone attempted to hand port them afterwards.

I would not spray that block. .020 over is basically max bore + a little. You own it and it's ok for now, I would put cam/lifters/springs in it and go. Run it for as long as the block will last. You want 500whp or flywheel? Both are relativly easy these days w/ an LS3 build.

Default 500whp

Alright, no spray for now. 500whp would be the goal. Thanks for the feedback 👍
