Default Anybody know the future powerplant for the CTS-V?

Are they going to continue with the LS6 for it? LS2? I can't imagine the General putting the LS7 into it... that would kind of take away form the mystique they have created for the Z06, but it would be a great way to take onthe new M5

Anyone know?

Well, putting the LS6 into it didn't really take too much mystique away from the last Z06 but I agree with you in this case...I'm thinking it will be the LS2, if they continue the car at all that is.

I don't see what would be wrong with putting the LS7 in there. It seems like there would be more plans for the LS7 than just the Z06 just like the case involving the LS6.

But then again, there are more differecnes between the LS2 and LS7 than there are between the LS1 and LS6 so maybe the LS7 is just for Vettes. Maybe the Caddy will get a S/C Northstar.

well as far as mystique goes, I have a hard time agreeing or disagreeing. One model year after the C5 debuted, the F-bodies got the LS1. I kind of see that a caddy in most consumers' eyes has less kinship to a Corvette than a Camaro, but since the CTS chassis is already commercially available, I can possibly spot GM deciding to pull out whatever it has up its sleeve.

Who knows, maybe there will be another GM muscle car (future Camaro, Firebird, GTO, etc.) that will have the LS7. It is kind of cool to reflect on the 1969 ZL1 motor and its involvement in both Corvette and Camaro.

I know the Corvette powerplant has been shared in the past, but that is only with minor improvements and evoluntionary product development. The LS7 is a lot more REVOLUTIONARY than evolutionary... this is a LOT bigger step up from the LS2 than the LS6 was to the LS1... I definitely think there is more of a mystique to it this time around.

Bob Lutz is running the show though, he doens't like the idea of the corvettes powerplant being so propreitary. So the GTO gets the LS2 as well Theirs already a concept GTO with LS7 rolling round

The CTS-V will get the LS7, that has been anounced. Rumour has it both at the 500 and the 550 hp level. It is also rumoured to be at the same time as the LS7 in the Z06.....2006 model year.

I would have to go with the LS7 as well. Unless a "optional" LS2 based engine shows up in the Vette line with a bit more horsepower(I wish they would for Z51 packages). Giving the CTS-V the LS7 cannot take away from the Z06/LS7 combo. The weight and suspension alone are going to gurantee the C6 Z06 a spot in the books for a while.

I would think it would be the LS2, but Motor Trend hinted at a blown LS2, although I highly doubt that will happen.

I am hoping that in the next few years, the stock LS2 will be bumped up to 450 EHP.

I understand that it will be the LS2 atleast for one model year. Speaking of supercharged Northstars, the XLR is said to be getting a supercharged option in the next model year. Maybe this will find its way in the CTS V ?!
