I do not think that racing had anything to do with 6.4 vs. 7.0L. How long have I been preaching the 7.0L?

I knew one year ago that Cadillac tried to run the full 7.0L LS7 in Speed GT. It was tossed, and had to be DEstroked to 5.8L.

You know that GM has been testing this engine in its 7.0L form for a LONG time. It is not some change that can take place in an instant. Timing curves, fuel consumption, Manufacture processes/suppliers/ect. Cold starts/cold weather tunes. Maps for this and that. EPA requirements, you name it, it had to be represented as such.

The 6.4L was a tidbit thrown out there to stir the pot, and it did just that.

well i wnat to know when of these monster units will be sold as crate engines and how much you guys recon they will cost? i know a few people over here in the UK that have some very interesting cars that could be even better with this engine. also it wouldn't take that many mods before 600bhp has come and gone with one of these and thats N/A!

also be nice to know more about the origins of this motor. is it a new design, or just an evolution? i agree that 7.0ltr is much easier to make 500bhp. also means that they have a car that would blow any german or italian supercar into the bushes and for less money.

thanks Chris.

Default LS7 sleeves vs LSx resleeve

LS7 sleeves vs LSx resleeve

The LS7 specs say the sleeves are pressed in. Anyone care to speculate as to how they compare to what Darton offers?

Thanks

They are probably using a lost foam process for the 7L block just like we do here for the Ecotec 2.2L. We freeze the liners then press them into the block. I'm assuming they are just like Dartons. You never know with a small volume engine Darton just may be the supplier of the sleeves or they use the same supplier and just rename them, which is common in the manufacturing business.

Got my autoweek in today and they said GM wanted to do 8 LITERS but " it wouldn't fit in the car..." Can you imagine an 8 LITER freaking Vette !!! . Now someone tell me that wouldn't hit 200 MPH. Also they quoted GM as saying "occasional weekend competition won't void the warranty..." I bet that will change once they start getting some claims in for "freak" driveline repairs. Can't wait to see the official MT and C&D numbers and also what this thing can do in the right tuner's hands...Zed

<<The LS7’s CNC-ported aluminum cylinder heads are all-new and designed to meet the high airflow demands of the engine’s 7.0-liter displacement, as it ingests approximately 100 cubic feet more air per minute than the Corvette’s 6.0-liter LS2 V-8 – an 18-percent increase in airflow>>

LS2 heads are the LS6 heads which stock flowed about 250-260 CFM so from this statement 18% more would be in the 300CFM area.

At least thats what I'm thinking.

Perhaps a better question might be what can they be made to flow once the Head porting shops start working them. Maybe 370 will be possible.

I agree totally. I'm sure once a few guys who know how to drive it will get this car bone stock into the low to mid 11's @ 120 or so.

I've already gone 11.783 in a stock Z06, and 11.60 with the airbox lid off. Expect low 11's to high 10's, and 124-125 MPH...

According to someone from Chris @ AP Engineering (who used to work for Katech). The heads flow 370... So, my guess is with port work, they'll be closer to 400...
