Default Whats up with the GTO's LS2??? Low on power???

I read a couple mags the other day and i know for a fact that the LS6 powered CTS-V runs a 13.0 because my close neighbor has one (black M6). I love how that thing pulls. But anyways, the CTS-V weighs over 4,000 pounds and runs that fast. I read that the new LS2 GTO was running low 13's but wasnt cutting times like the CTS-V does. Both the motors are rated at 400hp and the GTO is lighter than why isnt the GTO running as quick? Both vehicles have IRS also. wut the *** is going on? Heavier car with a smaller motor and the same horsepower runs faster than the GTO??? I never liked the GTO when it came out and im beggining to really HATE it now. It looks like a Grand(ma) Am if you ask me.

WHERES THE GTO'S HORSEPOWER????????????

Doesn't the LS2 actually weigh less than the LS1 or am I just mixing up info I heard before?

the GTO will never have more or even equal "listed" power than the corvette. ever.

Yup, same engine, same listed power 400hp, 395 lb/ft...

Granted the Vette will get the power to the ground more efficiently and it weighs a fair amount less...but there's no denying the power it does have.

That rule fell by the wayside some number of years ago. Now the CTS-V, GTO, STS-V, and upcoming XLR-V all have either the same or more HP than the Vette.

It think the difference is that the GTO is extremely tricky to launch cleanly. It either wheelhops like crazy, spins, or bogs. One out of every 5 runs results in what I'd consider a clean launch.

Only back when the GNX kicked it's ***

I don't think its about the hp listing anymore. It's the cars that are selling and the market the going after...440hp CTS-V vs 500 V10 BMW M5..Mustang Cobra 390hp vs 350hp GTO...etc...They are rating the cars better vs their counter part

That and GM is out to prove itself...say "thank you" to Mr. Lutz for much of this. It's his intention to make GM the "Amercian BMW"...not sure if it'll go that far, but they've got a good start.

Quality and fit and finish are going way up compared to the cheap plastic crap they were making just a few years ago. My 2000 vette's interior was an insult for the cost of the car...my GTO is as nice as my brother's Audi. It's not just the engine anymore (although that's what most of us care about).

It's now about putting the quality materials and engineering into the car and then slapping some good 'ol Amercian horsepower in it...

CTS-V 405hp LS6
GTO 350 hp LS1/400hp LS2
STS-V 440hp supercharged Northstar
C6 400hp LS2
C6 Z06 500hp LS7

You get the idea.

Oh, and the CTS-V is 3850 lbs...not over 4000.

Lightbulb

Low 13s? Don't go by magazine numbers, it's a TRUE high 12 second (the 6 speed at least) car in stock trim.

Even that was changed to 400/400 just before being released.

Keep in mind 05's JUST hit dealerships starting this week and i'm quite sure no owner has more than a few hundred miles on theirs yet, it is just a matter of time before someone gets a few thousand miles on the engine which will loosen it up a bit bringing the dyno numbers up to where they are expected.

As for magazine tests, i'd be darn willing to bet they couldnt drive anything but an automatic worth a crap and even then it would have to have the worlds best traction control for them to get perfect numbers from anything. Their is a post on LS1GTO about how the test people got their 4.6/4.7 0-60 times for the 05's. Simply put, a semi-hard launch with good throttle modulation and a power shift into 2nd for 6M's and very good throttle modulation with a non-stall launch for A4's with the TC off on both will result in the fastest short times. I'd put money on the fact that few if any test drivers for magazines even shut the TC off never the less launched hard or power shifted at all. This is why real world drivers who beat the doors off their cars after much practice can get far better than magazine quoted numbers. Simply put, lets sit back and wait for some real world dynos and drag times.

Well, that's what they rate the engine at...when it comes to advertising, it's alot easier to say it's 400/400.

I'm sure the cars will do better than the car rags say...besides they have to underrate it so they can say the mustang is a better car This is why no one trusts the mags anymore.

The GTO is still on thin, tiny all season tires. Its not geared as well as the CTS-V and it seems to be harder to launch than the Caddy.

doesn't the GTO have 245s? an f-body with 275s isn't the easiest thing to launch.

Yeah, stock it comes with 245's but you can fit more rubber under there (albeit they didn't leave us much more room)...besides, who the uses stock tires if they're going to the track?
