A turn-key LS1 is what, $6000? So, you think it will be like $10,000 or $12,000?
From the mouth of Dave Hill it is EXPECTED to be $15,000 bux.

That is MSRP correct? If so 10-11.5k might be something we could see out the door of a wholesaler right?

A dealer is taking pre-orders and told me that GM is telling them 12-15k.

I'd say 15k complete. I wouldn't be suprised if it's more. Yeah you could get a big cube motor but it wont be able to get the gas mileage of the LS7.

I would imagine it is, he didn't really indicate as nothing is concrete right now. Guys, you ain't gonna get this motor for under $15,000. Think about the price of some of these compenents. Titanium valve run about $100 dollars a piece, titanium connecting rods I honestly have no idea but my guess is around $2000, i have never heard of titanium pushrods or valve springs but that is mad $$$, forged crank at an oem level is probably an $1000 dollar piece, dry sump oiling system is $$$, CNC'd 12 degree heads are $$$, and the list goes on and on. Oh yeah, and the assembly cost of one of the Wixom plant specialists or "Masters" as Dave called them.

I'm sure the bigger motor will make more power (502, 572, 6xx) but you gotta remember this ls7 motor is a cam swap, headers swap, and remaining exhaust swap away from 750 hp or so. These heads flow what most aftermarket big block heads flow right out of the box with 264 cc ports and 87 cc ports intake/exhaust respectively. Add in the super light rotating assembly and Bam, mad power.

Based on the MTI built 455 C.I.D. 610HP/605RWHP motor, I would guess the LS7 427 C.I.D. would cost about $13,500.00.

David Hill apparently did say $15,000. LS6 and LS2 engines typically sell for 23-28% off list. So a possible street price of $11-12k is likely.

GM hopes to produce about 15,000 engines a year at the center. Some of the LS7 engines will be sold to enthusiasts for their custom-built hot rods and race cars, for about $10,000.
The above Quote is from Automotive news.

A 632 BBC would embarrass the LS7. Hell, GM ZL502 (whatever its called) will make more power than a LS7.

well, i am a fan of big blocks as well, but compare the package size of a BBC, and also the weight to an ls7.

It really depends on what you are looking to do. would anyone really want try to put a bbc in their 4th gen f-bod or c5/c6? The extra weight and size would be a problem.

Kinda off topic, but does anyone know if regular aftermarket 4.125 LS1/6 pistons work with LS7/C5R heads with the different valve angle? Going from the pic of the LS7 piston, I would think not, but I know there are builders on here who would know for sure.

but is that big block smogable with the factory warranty. and i doubt it idles nearly as smooth as an LS7. and the ls7 still has the factory tune. throw a couple of bolt ons and a good tune, and the LS7 will give the big block a run for its money. not to mention the weight savings and overall durability of the LSx motors

I would not scoff at the ZL502. We did one in a 1957 Belair as a crate motor (street version). It made 505rwhp and 550ftlb right out of the box with minor tuning of the demon carb. Needless to say, it was more than enough to tear up those little tires in all 5 gears with the Richmond 5-speed.

With a better cam and EFI on that motor, 600rwhp is easy and it is daily drivable. You could also throw 300hp of N2O at a motor like that with no problem.

a little off topic but I just was curious how the hell you are saying small block 427 when I thought a 427 was a big block?
