guru- don't forget the extra 400 pounds, crappier aerodynamics, crappier brakes, and crappier suspension.
If your goal is ONLY to go fast in a straight line, then a new GT500 with a couple of mods is probably the cheapest way to go about it (assuming that you feel the urge to start with a new car). However, if you want performance on a road course, I'd be willing to be that even with the significant power advantage the new GT500 couldn't even come close.

I've never heard that before.
As far as the GT500 vs. Z06, the GT500 isnt the timeless classic. It is the same platform as the new stang, with a bodykit, and a blower ,and the words cobra on it. In reality, its really nothing special if you take away the word "shelby" off of it. At least the old shelby cobras were a beast of their own. Its a blown,4v DOHC V8, if it DIDNT have 450+hp It would be pathetic. If you stuff 1 1/2 times the atmosphere into a cylinder, dont you think something good will happen? Its a GT head, and lightning block, w/ a blower.
As far as the Z06..Its racing inspired, entirely new engine built and engineered from the ground up. There is nothing withing 100k that will touch it. I would like to see a porsche GT2 vs. new Z06 on a road course.. I honestly wonder who would win.

Most other people want to do more than go in a straight line, that's why they buy real cars.
