LS7 heads worth it for a street motor?
OK, in the future I want to build a 455. I want to use an LS2 block taken to 4.160" with a Lunati 4.185" stroker crank and pro-billet rods. I'd have to order pistons from MTI because they offer the size I'd need on their 455 package. Where I can't make up my mind is the top end. I want to have a motor that performs like a very fast factory car. Tame cam and everything. Are the LS7 heads and intake worth it as far performance expectations go or is it overkill. The more and more I think about it I could save lots of money by buying Patriot Stage 3 LQ9 heads with 72cc chambers and pair it with a 90mm FAST intake. I don't know what power levels to expect because I haven't seen this done yet. Most people going this big don't build tame motors. I guess a ballpark of like 500rwhp? Can anyone offer some insight on a head choice?

ls7 heads price and availability
When will the heads and intake be available? What is the price for the heads unassembled and assembled? Intake price? ET performance already is selling a ls7 head which is their own design with ports the same as the new gm head and they are stating their head costs less than the factory gm head and their head is almost 4000 dollars assembled ready to go? I think I remeber seeing the ls7 head bare is only 550 a piece?

So think about that when comparing an assembled head versus a factory bare head.
Plus i think the ETP ls7 heads are selling for around 3500 bucks, not 4000.

Thats what I thought. Will GM be selling them for 2k assembled with the fancy valves and CNC porting? I was planning on buying them from GM and having them hand finished. SDPC have you got any prices yet on the assembled and unassembled heads and intake?

It would be nice to see an optioon available to buy heads assembled minus intake valves(which, to correct Nate_Taufer, there are only 8 of the Ti variety) which would save a bit of dough on something that the average consumer doesn't necessarily need their money spent on. Then valves could be purchased from another vendor or we could wait until GM offered a steel variety in their Performance Parts division. Does ET Performance offer their heads with a 2.20" intake valve? If so, who is their supplier?

Why would anyone bother buying the LS7 heads and than work them and add all the parts when you can get essentially the same head that flows the same if not better from ET Perf.?????????
Also, their LS1 265 heads outflow the LS7 heads with a smaller port, it flows 380 cfm. You can hand port them more too. $2,995.00
Am I missing something, seems like a no brainer

How do you know their 265 outflows their ls7 they do not list a flow chart for their ls7 heads on their website? Their ls7 heads cost 3500 I believe. I saw a price for the bare ls7 heads for 500 a piece so I was thinking buy those and give them to my head porter and assemble them with steel 2.20 valves and that price might come in a little under 3500 for sure.
I talked to Cary at ET and he said their version of the ls7 does utilize a 2.20 intake valve.

The ETP website lists a 2.1 and 2.125" valve in the 265 cc heads based on bore size. I would definitely go with ETP's over the ls7 heads.
I would imagine the price of ls7 heads assembled to be around 2600 for the pair. Maybe more as gm can make a lot more profit this way.
