How is it going? I just finished with mine about a week ago and there are a few things you need to know about.
Yes you need different lifter trays you need to order them from gm and will take a couple of days to get them the good news is they are cheap 5.00 per tray
You can also order the head bolts from GM.
Check your windage tray for clarence. Mine did not clear and i had to add a washer to it but i had the corvette oil pan I am not sure about yours.
You will also have to relocate the cam sensor and knock sensors
You can get the extensions from ractronics for about $60.00
I think thats about it
Good luck

crap, you need new lifter trays?!?! Im right in the middle of putting mine together and looking at those trays was one of the next things on my list.

On my rear cover I had to put a washer on the bolts bc my stock bolts bottomed out b4 the cover was tight...not sure if it was just my luck or if anyone else had this problem.

where exactly do those knock sensors go in the ls2 block...i was thinking about just not having them!

did your ls2 block come with new plugs or did you use the ones from the ls1 block or buy new ones?

There is a couple of good spots for them on the side of the block
motor mounts (hte unused bolt hole and another one by itself near the back.)

The windage tray is a common thing I have heard people ethier shim it or use a ballpinn hammer. I did both just incase

Maybe I am missing something, but ls2 lifter trays work with ls1/ls6 lifters and vise versa. The ls2 trays are a better design. I have been putting them in every head/lifter swap car so far and they are great!

The LS1 lifter trays do not work with the LS2 block. You need the LS2 trays to fit.

Thanks, it's added.

If you go to an LS2 block these are the LS2 parts you will need. The remaining LS1 parts work.
Lifter retainers
Valley cover
Timing chain cover
Timing chain and gear
Timing chain dampener
Cam sensor and electrical connector
Tap block for LS1 knock sensors
Plug PCV outlets on rear of each valve cover(2)
Run PCV lines per LS6
LS2 head bolts

i also forgot to tell you about the motor mounts on one side of the ls2 will need to be filed down to fit the c5 motor mounts. let me know when you are done we can meet some time and run them for fun or a hotdog (thats what me and my friends run for up at sac.) plus we talk hella crap to each other all in fun of course
btw do you ever get over to corvette forum? we are having a extreem run(a bunch of us get together and raise hell with the bikers down at 4 corners in woodside) we have about 20 of going out this week on the 23rd of this month. if you want to come along pm me.

You don't have to tap the LS2 block to fit the LS1 knock sensors ... there are 2 holes on each side which the LS1 knock sensor can just screw right into. One is near the motor mount, and the second is kinda hard to find but is in the back of the block. Just screw the LS1 knock sensor in, and off you go.
