Default LS2 Cam Question

I have access to a used "Custom Grin" Comp Cams cam

226/226 .591/.591 114*seperation

what should my overall change be from stock?

low end, high end, highway (will I still be able to cruise @ 2000rpm in 6th?

will this hurt me for emissions?

will I loose too much low end to be streetable?

I do intend to get rid of the 3.46:1 rear end and get a 4.10:1 around spring
probrobly gonna go with some LT's too.

thanks guys,
Russ

oh yeah,
it's a 2005 Pontiac GTO (LS2)

.
It's probably going to run about the same as the 224 114 cam does on a 346.

I would consider it to be a good all around cam ... you shouldn't lose much low end, and it should be perfectly streetable.

I would guess numbers in the 380-390rwhp range given you do the supporting mods (exhaust/intake/tune).

Personally, I would go much bigger.

Good luck.

I am running a ls2 402 with the 226/226 600 lift on a lsa 112 I have not got it tuned yet but it is very streetable and supose to past smog and have very strong middle end power. I have thought about getting a bigger cam but i feel it will take away the fun factor in the mid range power. As for me i am not looking to get all the power up top at 5000 rpm i want it at 3000 on up with good TQ. I also have the 4.10 gears and it's a blast to drive.

That's actually a very small cam for a 402. Remember, the extra displacement allows a larger cam will be more streetable. From what I have seen, a cam in the mid 230's duration would be a relatively mid-range cam for a 402, kinda like a 228 on an LS1.

Sounds like a good overall cam for your motor, especially for street use. You definitely should not have an emissions issue with that cam either.

cool,
I'm hoping to get the LT's on at the same time,
and a tune.

guess I should be in the 425 rwhp range
this should be enough for a while,

next will probrobly be 4.10:1 rear end, and a stronger possi

I am not sure if you really want to go with 4.10 gears. i have them and i run out of gear way to quick. i am thinking about going to 3.73 and selling the 4.10

what's our redline?
do you have the auto? (or the T56)

I redline @ 6500rpm, I have to shift into 4th @ about 95mph or so,
right now, I still have all of fourth in the 1/4

my understanding is, it should bring me from just under 2100rpm @ 80 to about 2350 @ 80mph in 6th

my redline is set at 6800 but i will shift at 6300-6500 with my set up i have to trap the 1/4 in 5th. T
he 4.10 are great for freeway driving but if you race on the freeway with another c5 you will alway be one gear ahead of them and will have to shift more which will lose you time. I race a z06 with stock gears and had a very hard time beating him he had 430 rwhp and 425 rwto i have 450 rwhp and 470 rwtq he was able to catch up with me at about 130mph because i had to shift into 5th and he just stayed in 4th we both top out at 165. i was at 6500 rpm at 165mph he was in forth at the same speed and rpms.
