Default Ls2 402 cam

I have been reading about strokers and the Tq for the street. I have seen the HP vary from high 400's to 550rwhp what cams are they using to acheive these various power levels? I'm fine with xer grinds and the noise.

You need to figure out what you are going to do with the car and cam it for that.

I presume that you are going to use all the good parts including great heads, intake and exhaust. At that point the use for the car will determine the cam choice.

A drag only car or even drag optimized car will have a peakier cam than a street or road race car. The street driven car/track car will need a broader power band and can rely less on peak hp.

If you get off on having high dyno numbers no matter how badly that makes the car drive on the street than get a mondo cam and be the slow guy on the street but the cool guy at the dyno shop.

A bud of mine put a relatively small cam in his 402 (230s at 0.6) so that the car would be very drivable on the street. He only peaks at 456/450 but than again the first time he ran the car (well built C5) at the drags he was in the 10's at 134 mph trap speed. So don't get too far into the teenage craze of living and dying by dyno numbers.

Assuming I wanted to keep my driveability/idle very similar to my current setup (224/228 581/588 114+2), what cam would I use?

Perry,

134 mph traps with 456 rwhp doesn't seem right unless that C5 has some ridiculous weight reduction. 124 seems much more like it.

I have a Baby cam in my 402 (226/226 112 .600 lift with a set of patriot stage2 heads and a putting out 473 rwhp and 489 rwtq. I like having a small cam because of the fun factor on the street. I have seen others with there 34x/34x and get some great dyno numbers but the hp wont kick in until 3500 rpms and for the street it just no fun. If you have a 224/228 in your 346 then a 332/336 should be just about the same
Good luck on your motor

What trans do you have? I think that is a very important part (and the rear gears) of the equation. I run a 244/250 .612 lift 113 lsa (no advance) cam in my LS2 402. I have a A4 with a 3800 stall. No dyno numbers yet, but it pulls like a beast all the way.
