Default LS2 Lifter Tray

Does anyone know if the LS2 lifter tray is an improvement in any way over the LS1/LS6? Maybe stronger or better design?

Getting ready to replace mine and am trying to figure out if there is any advantage to ordering the LS2 version.

I bet they are the same. Just be glad you didn't blow 2 motors by getting the any of the bad ones from 01'. I destroyed two race motors due to the bad batch (marked #10) that had one of the holes cast 5 deg off square, forcing the lifter to roll against the cam. The lifters would run about 3hrs, then the roller breaks off, destroying the cam and the lifter bore.

Hmm....mine is an 01 and I had a failure, but only on one lobe. I have LS2's to put in, they are definitely different. I also drilled 1/4" drain holes on the side to let the oil bleed out at high rpm.

The LS2 lifter tray is different because of the cylinder de-activation. I don't believe it will help or hurt your engine.

sorry, yes, just one of the 4 holes is wrong. Unfortunately, I had one bad one in 2 separate engines. Took Katech and GM several months to find and acknowledge the problem. You could see that they bore was turned, but I had assumed the cam/lifter caused it, NOT the guide itself.

The LS2 lifter tray will work in a LS1 block, but the LS1's will NOT work in a LS2 block. Dont no why but thats what GM said

Was there a part number associated with the bad ones? I was going to get new trays for my lifters when the motor was apart but I wouldn't want to install bad parts. I would hope GM pulled them from the system.

The ls2 block has cast ribs that interfer if you use ls1 trays. the ls2 trays have molded recesses for clearance around the ribs. About $ 6.00 each from Kris @ sdpc.
