Do you think MTI's S1 cam will be unstreetable in my 402?

Question Do you think MTI's S1 cam will be unstreetable in my 402?

I just bought a cam from MTI, 244/244 612/612 112. Its going in my 402, I'm just worried about street ability I don't want this thing to surge and die everywhere I go. Has anyone heard anything about this cam?

That'd be fine for a 402... Probably behave about like a 224/.580 cam in a 346 would as far as drivability.

No. It will work fine with a good tune.

I wont be that tame, but it will do just fine. I wouldn't worry about it. Just go to a reputable tuner. Don't skimp on that. Trust me, I learned my lesson.

Looks good to me. My bud has a 245/255 .630/.630 114 in his 408 and it runs pretty much like my MS3 on stock cubes.

MTI will be doing my tuning, Thunder has always done all my tuning and odds and ends but MTI really impressed me they spit out like 3 cars a day, they have to be doing something right. Not saying anything bad about thunder there service next to none.

I was just a little worried because after I bought the cam I noticed a caption next to it that said 427 cubes or larger. Does anyone know what kind of Rpm range can be expected with this cam?

MTI has always undercammed their engines. That cam will be better in a 402 than a 427 IMHO. You can expect a mid to high RPM powerband.

I have that cam in my 427 and I would go no bigger. Streetable is very different for different people. If you drive your car everyday like I do that is the biggest that I would go. Jayson at MTI is very good at matching cams and he can have a custom one ground for you if need be. The C1 would be a good cam but that is if you want every bit of power, if you can sacrifice a little performance go with a slightly smaller cam. And Jayson "undercams" his engines because he wants satisfied customers with driveable cars.

i THINK i just took that cam out of my car.
only problem is that it might not be that one, it might be the step down (Z1) we are examining that now.
it was driveable - but i was always worried it would die - when i let off the gas it would bog way down and then kick back up - it just worried me more than anything.

I had that S1 in an MTI 434ci and it was my daily driver. I'd say it was "borderline" streetable in the 434ci, even with good tuning. But, if you go with a 114 LSA it will probably help. Mine was a 112 LSA.

It had about the same streetability in the 434ci as an X1 in a 346ci. No real stalling issues, but lugging at low rpm was evident.

Don't buy into the "bigger is better" hype, everyone has a different idea of streetable.

Quick Reply: Do you think MTI's S1 cam will be unstreetable in my 402?
