Default 402LS2 Numbers

467/444 , 05 GTO M6

Lingenfelter 403 Shortblock, Profiler LS 215 heads opened to 230(supposedly), milled to 65cc, (242/246/114/.648/.648) Cam, Lingenfelter Ported LS2 Throttle body, ASP underdrive pulley, FAST 90mm intake, 42lb injectors, kb boost a pump, Stainless works 1 3/4 LT headers no cats, Corsa touring exhaust, Jesel J2K rockers, morrel lifters. Volant intake.

These numbers seem low to me, the A/F was at 12.8 across the board. I have a few questions, like once the motor heats up and is running the oil pressure with my high flow oil pump from Lingenfelter will drop to 10-15lbs , The supposed pushrod length was only 7.3, there was no idle quality tuning done at all, and i believe only 4 power pulls where done on the car. Any help with this matter would be much appreciated.

That's kind of strange. How many miles are on the motor?

They seem a tad low for how large that cam is. As for the oil pressure, my 402 with a TSP ported LS6 oil pump has 40 psi or so warm, and 60-70 psi under decent throttle, that's with regular ol' Valvoline 10w30 non synthetic oil, when I put the Mobil1 15w50 it should see a tad more.

When the motor hit the dyno it had been heat cycled to break everything in and then the 2-3 miles driven to get to the dyno. Also i think the tech told me he put regular valvoline 5w-30 in it. Yeah i think it is low i was at least looking for 500hp at the wheels.

I would just keep driving it. I would guess that your numbers will be higher after 1000 miles. I don't know how much but you probably feel it getting stronger the more you drive it. However those number do look pretty low for a 403 with a FAST 90/90.

Yeah might thoughts start to wonder if things where done right, or if she could use some more compression, what do you guys think. The compression right now is probably right around 10.9-11.0.

I am actually looking for another shop to go to somewhere in the state of florida to have the motor gone thru to make sure everything was done correctly and not half assed, and a good tuner while im at it.

I just installed a 402 in my Z06. The car made 490 RWHP & 441 RWTQ, I thought the torque number was a little low for stroker motor. Here are the details of my setup:

402 LS2 Shortblock 12cc Mahle Pistons 11:1 Comp
TSP/Patriot Race Ported Heads 59CC Chambers 2.08 int 1.60 Ext
GM MLS Head Gaskets
TSP Texas Gaint Cam 248/254 611/613 113 LSA
Comp 7.425 Pushrods
NGK TR6 Plugs (plan on spraying 150 shot)
Stock Rocker Arms
Fast 90mm
Nick Williams 90mm throttlebody
Halltech Stinger Intake
Kooks 1 7/8 Headers no cats
Borla Stinger Exhaust

I posted a thread over in the dyno section about my low numbers and got some could info:

I would be very concerned about the oil pressure dropping to 10-15 psi when hot at idle. Are you seeing 10 psi oil pressure per 1000 rpm? If not I would investigate the reason for the oil pressure being low.

I had a low oil pressure issue with my 402 LS2 install over the winter. I had 10-15 at idle, max of 35-40 psi. My issue turned out to be a problem with the valley cover not having the o-ring seals that block off the displacement on demand ports cast into the block. Installed the 8 gaskets and problem was solved. 40 psi at idle, 70-75 @ 6000 rpm with 10w30.

My TSP 402 has killer oil pressure with the ported oil pump...Mine being heat cycled a few times and about 8 miles on it first pull no tune made 484rwhp, after a lil tune went to 510....Thats a tune to drive it and break it in more...Full exhaust in a vette...Plus i have 19's on the back...Wheel change is worth around 15rwhp...Or atleast it has been on past cars at the shop....

A engine with that size cam really needs 11-8-12.1 compression, you would be suprised how much it would pick up the numbers.

Hey Jonathon, did LPE do the cam setup or Dustin? At least she's running again! Sorry to hear you're not happy with the results, who tuned it?

Right now i am running 18x9 in the front and 18x10 in the rear CCW C-14 Corsair race wheels. They are 5lbs lighter a piece than my stock 17x8's were.

Hey Will,

No LPE did not do the setup. At this point in time i have alot more problems with this thing than low numbers. The motor problem is just one of them. I am taking it to a different shop to have them go thru the tranny and make sure everything is ok, and im trying to find a tuner in florida with HP tuners for LS2's. Because i have an 05 gto, the maf table within the ecm is garbage and after 5500rpm and at a high air flow rate the maf zeros itself out. Anyways at this point i want to find a tuner with HP 2.0 and figure out why this motor is running like dog crap.

Sorry to hear that J. Considering how much dough you've dropped so far and it still isn't going your way I'd say you've got two choices: a) ship her up to Lingenfelter, Katech or Wheel2Wheel and bite that bullet (most expensive but they'll do it right), b) this one you won't like: find a stock motor to put in and end the frustration.

That oil pressure is a SERIOUS problem. Pinched oil pump o-ring, missing plug, or something is to blame. Might be as simple as a broken oil pressure sending unit though. I would NOT drive the car with pressure like that untill I figured out what was going on.

As for the numbers, the compression and the heads would be where I'd look first. Any flow numbers on them? Ported/un-ported?

I would not be satisfied with < 500rwhp out of a 400+" motor. If you've got the dough, definatly put it in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing. The guys who tuned it didn't use a hypertech did they?

Can you post a graph?

Can't Mike Norris handle GTOs or does he only do tunes? MTI Racing in Atlanta does GTO work and will look through the 402 if needed. Tere are probably a few shops in the Southeast that I'm forgetting.

What amazes me is that these numbers were put out with the FAST 90/90. I could see numbers being a little low with the LS2 intake manifold.

I do not own an LSx motor (yet) so I'm not trying to be a know it all or anything....... But it sounds to me like your oil is the only reason why the oil pressure is so low. Before I looked into replacing oil pumps and things, I would look at a thicker grade. I went from SAE 30 to 10w30 in my pickup (to squeeze out another 1 MPG after the gas started shooting up) and after it heated, DAMN. I lost an easy 10 psi over the thicker oil I was using. I use 15w50 Mobil 1 in my T/A as someone else mentioned in this thread. I would try something thicker than 5w30 to help solve your oil pressure probs.
