air pump into vacuum pump
so i was thinking while sitting in the rain at the track i am going to hook up my air pump so that the inlet takes air from my valve cover.and jjust vents to atmosphere.and see if it makes a difference at the track.any input on this idea?

Intrested as well, this thought has crossed my mind. Had pump disconnected at the out put. And I was suprized how much air it puts out. Need to see what kind of pull it actualy has. Might be worth while with a catch can as well.

whatever you do, make sure you have an oil separator. i didnt when i tried this a few year ago and it killed the air pump in a couple months.
it was also annoying hearing it cuton and off all the time (had it on a tps switch)

To make a proper vacuum, you need some pump power, and i am not sure
if the smog actually makes enough. But an vac pump DO release a lot of power, especially at high rpm, gave 14 hp on my ford tt. The position of the sucker in the valve cover is importent to. Moroso makes a nice one.

going to use a seperator from home depot for air compressors, take my fuse panel apart under the hood where the relay is and hook the relay trigger wire to a switch and use it at the track only.try to get it done tommorow, going back to the track this weekend.

There is a real vacuum that came in the 81-85 Olds engine and it is under
the AC compressor and it is belt driven.
It a v8 that came on Buik and Olds B and C bodies 81-85 and in some
Caprices station wagons up to 1990.

We have done it any so have many others. It is a waste of time as it does not pull enough vacuum for high rpm. We ended up converting to a moroso custom built setup that works well, but is a race car only design.

lol the mechanical pumps are nowhere near as free as the stock air pump to try.
also in reguards to the actual question he is asking if it will move air through the engine, which it will.
he is not asking it to pull a hard vaccuum, which it won't.
