Default LS7 intake rocker failure

Had one fail last night on #1. Spirited run then noise. Upon examination it looked like it failed at the fulcrum.

Has anyone else had one fail? Not sure if they are up to the task at hand, with my cam. Does anyone make any aftermarket ones, that are not $1400 Jesels?

I was just wondering how the engine was doing. Are you running a solid roller with some large pressures on the springs that could have caused the fulcrum failure? Did you spill any bearings in the process? I haven't heard of any other rockers other then the Jesels, but you also have to machine the rocker stands to accept the shafts.

Is it possible for you to get a pic of the failure?

I hope all is well!

I run a hyrdaulic roller, with very aggressive ramp rates and a decent amount of spring pressure (#150ish on the seat). I'm sure needle bearings are all over now.

I dont want to use Jesels, they are great rockers, but $$$ and you have to machine the heads.

I can post some pics in a bit.

oh man, that is horrible. Were you running LSK lobes? I think I might get them rebuilt like you can the stock LS1 rocker arms. Yet, I can't remember who to send them into to get rebuilt...

I´m on my third set inlet rockers, because the rockers doesent look solid enough for performance. Thats in less than 10k miles. I dont have any failures on the rockers, i just changed them with servic, and to have been a bit crooked.
I didnt know that jesel had released rockers for the ls7 heads .
I hope that you didnt hav any following failures to the broken rocker, and hope you cleaned all debris out of the engine.

DOC, what size cam are you running? I think I'm going to change all 8 of them, and put a less aggressive cam in. I do not want to blow the motor apart.

after examining the valve in detail, i think i can just clean the face up, get a new thicker lash cap and all will be good.

it broke on the 'weak' side of the intake rocker...ie the side where the most load will be. maybe it was just a bad rocker...it'll be interesting to see how they hold up.

as for screening the heads/block, to catch those small needle bearings, i think i'd end up having oil control problems.

Is this the Warhawk LSX setup that you're replacing your "inlet" rockers every 3,000mi?

Greg,
Why do you think the screens will affect oil movement at all? If oil filters can flow the oil to feed your entire engine and are much more restrictive then a simple screen, why wouldn't the screen work fine?

That is true, but I still don't think it'll affect oil flow, because the entire oil system is pressurized as well I think if you're not going to rebuild the rockers, that screens are probably a good idea. Do you have any experience with using screens and oiling problems? I've never used screens before so its just a guess on my part.
