LS7 into 65 chevelle Questions
1. Is it possible to use drive by wire? What is needed, other than the gas pedal.
2. Does anybody make an aftermarket harness for this swap into an old vehicle.
3. Does anybody know where I could get a wiring diagram for the engine harness on the 06 Z06?
Thanks
Lonnie
Yes you can use drive by wire. You will need a PCM that was designed for the DBW. You will need the TAC module and the electronic pedal and obviously the DBW throttle body. All these should be from the same PCM family.
Speartech can set you up with exactly the harness that you need for your application and it is a quality product. The bonus to running DBW is that with a couple of switches you can have cruise control.
Motor mounts are available to bolt this into the 65. Headers are available for the LSx engines in 66 and up Chevelles but I am sure they would fit pretty closely in the 65 since they use the same frame.
If you plan to run a T56 trans you will have to open up the transmission tunnel a little bit as it isn't big enough.
For a fuel tank you can get a stainless one set up for fuel injection from several different vendors or you can use a plastic tank from a mid 90s Impala.
You will need a modified oil pan but this can be purchased from S&P.
All of that info and more can be found in the above mentioned forum. In case you are wondering I am getting ready to put a DBW 402 LSx engine and T56 in my 65 Chevelle SS.
Good luck.
Tim
