ls1 heads on ls2

Default ls1 heads on ls2

Whats needed to put the ls1 heads on an ls2?, i know ill use the 6.0 head gaskets and the valve covers are different, is there anything else ill have to worry about??

I had a set of Patriot LS6 heads put on mine and needed to swap the ls1 head gaskets for a set of 6.0L head gaskets (went with the GM LS6 truck gaskets as they were the only one's available at the time).

The LS2 head bolts are different then the LS1. Where the LS1 has long and short head bolts. The LS2 only has long bolts.

Valve covers were centerline on most of the LS1's. I think 97 vette and 98 fbodies were the only ones that aren't centerline for the bolts.

Hmmm...can't think of anything else to change out.

Doh I'm probably missing something though...

so would i need ls1 head bolts for the ls2 heads, i saw someone selling "ls6" head bolts for bolting the ls6 heads to an ls1 on ebay. would those be similar to the bolts i would need? and i would use a regular ls2 head gasket right? made for the motor.

ARP part number 134-3609 says it will fit the 6.0 "gen III/IIV" "head style-LS1" what is this supposed to mean? and the ARP part number 134-3610 says that it is for heads with all the same length bolts.

lol nobody knows what head bolts i need? i need to know this info ASAP so if anyone knows please chime in. and if ill have any other problems! i am trying to get one last race in before the end of this month when the track will probably close.

You need to know what year your LS2 is , Because all LS1 & LS6 & early LS2's used the same head bolt ,long bolt except the out head bolts they were shorter , now on the newer LS2 i beleave late 04 early 05 they went with all long bolts .

my ls2 is an 05. so either way doesnt it not matter, since ill be using the older style heads(98) and ill need the different sized bolts?

The heads don't have nothing to do with it ,its the depth of the threaded holes in the block, the only difference in the 98 and 99+ is the valve cover bolt pattern. I also have the 05 LS2 with Dart casted heads. You haft to use the new style head bolts

oh ok, so i basically used the ls2 head bolts then..... any other problems...just use the 6.0 head gaskets right...

Is this 05 LS2 new to your car ? F-Body right?? If so you will need the LS2 valley cover and LS2 timing chain & cover and cam sensor and reroute your knock sensors. and linthen the sensor wiring for the knock & cam sensor

Way ahead of you buddy, i already have the complete ls2(valley cover timing chain ect ect ect.) lingenfelter extention wires(racetronix) and knock sensors off the ls1. also ls1 windage tray, oil pan and pickup.

yall are wrong about the head bolts, the ls2 uses all SHORT head bolts, not long, as far as the rest of it you sound like your all set. you will need a new vally cover tho, you have to use the ls2 vally cover. I just did this swap myself. Awsome power!!
