PSJ...I thought I read somewhere in this thread or the release that this is a "bowtie block".

Robin, I just sent you a pm about something else.

Was this already covered, are these blocks as strong as the C5R blocks, the nickel content?

Thats what I'm waiting for before I freshen everything. No point in spending money to either not fit in the rules not be competitive.

Weren't the C5R blocks Aluminum? or is high nickel content used to strengthen iron?

They are...

Obviously iron is a misnomer...as there is some amount of alloy in there. I do believe some nickel is used in an iron alloy to help combat a little bit of corrotion? Someone correct me on that thought.

Nickle is used to add ductility (ie. durability) to cast iron, not aluminum. I believe PSJ was asking 2 separate questions above.

This is a badass block. I'm thinking harder everyday about selling the BBC and going to an LSx in the '68. 400 cube LSx + F2 ProCharger........weeeeeeeeee!

Nickel may add some ductility but it is primarily used to refine grain size, along with chrome and silicon (aiding in strength improvement), increase wear and heat and improve corrosion resistance.

good thread.

OK, guys help me out some please, What can you stroke this motor out to, I would assume to at least a 427, right? or can it go bigger. will have either a whipple 3.3 or a Kenne Bell 2.8 as a power adder. This is a serious question for me. I am trying to plan my engine build. needs to be done by no later than May for a national Denali event. Any ideas I can take to my builder would help me a lot.
Thanks
Mark

Awesome work. The block is a work of art in person.

PSJ, Yes, GM is caling it a Bowtie Block. Even has the bowtie cast into the sides of it

Should be a huge hit!
