As Kurt said, there are separate plates for sealing the water jackets. In this pictures, the narrower plate seals the jackets on the interior of the block, and the wider plate bolts to the outside to seal it up. If you look at the side shots of the block, you will notice several bolt holes for the plates.

LS Block
We (Dart) are currently searching for a viable donor in which to build a daily driver with using the LS Billet Dart block. We see no reason that one of these blocks can not be used in a daily driver.
Can you say onld street rod with polished block!?! Wow that would look sweet!!
Kurt is right on the price, it is projected at $6000.00. OUr billet blocks are selling like hot cakes in the 5.00" and 5.200" bore spacings, and the LS blocks are machined on the same machining centers. So orders for them will be placed right in line. Our current production list will keep our orders at about 4-6 weeks for delivery.
As for cubic inches, all depends on what one might want, like Kurt said, we can make the decks tallers, which will allow longer strokes, so the cubic inches can be pretty much what ever someone wants as long as the internal parts are available.
As for overhauling the CNC machine, if done on a cheap piece I would agree, these are very large Makino CNC machines, made for production, used by many of the automobile makers, and their suppliers, they start at $650,000.00 untooled, with no processing equipment, or tool changers! Machining blocks like this is no task for the equipment.
Stay tuned and look for the Dart LS Billet block powered Camaro or Firebird in the future!!

With parts that are currently available, what is the largest cubic inch you could get with this bew block?
500+ cubes with heads that flow 400 cfm woudl make a nice street engine with moderate cam and lots of torque.

when I asked about the lsx block on the dart website I was told about 6k for the block.
Considering you most likely wont need to spend another 2 or 3k to fix a supposed ready to run block I think the price is right =)

To achieve the "mold quality" finish would require 2-3 times the finish passes and cost $12-18k.
My concern (if they're looking for suggestions) would be the water passage plate inside the oil cavity for street use that can see ambient temps. cycle from -20 to +250 when running in a true daily driver. If a valve cover or thermostat housing seeps it's no big deal, but here it goes straight in the oil. Have they tested their other billet blocks with a similar plate design in daily use?
That's an unreal amount of hours of programming and debugging. Awesome job! Is that really cut from a rectangular billet block? The number of times it has to be stress relieved to try to stabilize it for finish machining must be crazy.

I put a few blocks on the scale today, Dave is going to be happy!
stock L92 with steel main caps 107#
Iron 6.0 with girdle and steel main caps with half filled water jackets (Daves) 224#
Daves Dart billet with steel main caps and all covers 119#
This is lighter than we had anticipated!!
