aluminum block can hold 800+ hp
Iron block can handle more
Aluminum block weighs approx 80lbs less

The only thing that scares me with an aluminum block is you can't overbore it if, say, you drop a valve in the cylinder, or melt a piston and it scores the bore past a cleanup hone.

iron block is good for F/I (stonger than aluminum but too havey)
aluminum is good for N/A (light weight, good for up to 700-800hp)

I can't say for sure about the stock blocks, but we have our 4.125" bore sleeved, 1/2" head studded aluminum blocks making twice that HP. They also have the potential for up to 4.200 bore NA, so many re-bores possible.
