Opinions on new motor???
Well guys my motor started knocking the other day and I had my mechanic buddy look at it and he says that I spun a rod bearing. So I am going to be doing a new motor. My question to yous guys is what should i do? 370, 383, 402, 408. I am leaning towards a mild 408. I am not looking to go crazy right now, but I do want an iron block so that I can build on it later. This car is a daily driver, so nothing too radical. I am going to go with a bigger cam than the tr224 that i have in the car now. I am also going to be doing some different heads. I have heard something about these new escalade heads that are flowing very good, is there are truth behind that? I am going to talk to an engine builder either tuesday or wednesday, but thought I might post the question to see what yall come up with.

I figured within 2-3 years I am going to build a wild 4xx ci out of an iron block, so does it make since to go ahead and get an iron block now instead of paying for an aluminum block now and then paying for an iron in ~2 years?

if your leaning towards 408 or bigger ci....... you'll need a few more thousand to do it "right"
(meaning without having to cut corners)
good luck

if i were you i would just rebuild the stock engine. the iron block isnt really needed for about 99% of this website and it just adds weight which effects every aspect of the car.

erik@hkracingengines.com is building a 408 for me now. The iron block even though it weighs about 80#'s more is the better choice. It's much stronger, you don't have to worry about core shift, and the bores are more uniform and concentric.

I think he'll be in this week, although he did tell me a good part of the industry is shut down for the holidays. Give him a call, if you don't have the # PM me. Erik is a great guy, I have probably spent 2 hours on the phone with him. He is very knowledgable as far as LSX are concerned. I can't wait to get my build, I went with a Callies Dragonslayer crank,Callies Compstar rods and Wiseco pistons. His prices are fair and he has a 2 year warranty if you stay off the juice.

I decided to go with an iron 408 and a 238/242 cam with p/p stock heads and my ls6 intake. Should me a nice little motor.
