I used Pro Mod rods and they are outstanding. They are the best quality rods I've seen for our engines hands down. They also seem like they can handle anything you can throw at them.

lunati pro-mods/ crower / callies-compstar, all good candidates for dd or street strip or race rods. im going to steer you to what direction you want to go with, and make a decision of off that. generally stick with the lightest, strongest rod you can get.

you might try being more specific in your questioning, you might get more along the lines of what specific info you are looking for.

my personal experience is really not all that vast, however it really depends on what application you are looking into. each has it's own specific requirements. not to mention, what budget you are working with, you'll get varied responses.

autocross
daily driver
street/strip
strip
boost
nitrous
ect..

FWIW, i've seen a guy run 8 flat at 170+ with a set of off the shelf eagles.

As long as you pay attention to the clearances, bolt stretch etc.... all of these rods will work awesome. Eagle and Scat H beams included.

Can someone post what some of these rods weigh?

I have a set of the Lunati ProMod Billets in my dry sump LS7 build. Hope to have it running in the spring.

I think my Promods were in the area of 650 grams, which is on the heavy side but they make up for it in strength.

Here's the average weights of the Compstar LS1 rods:
6.100" 607/ 442/ 165
6.125" 618/ 447/ 171
6.125" small journal 595/ 430/ 165

The details of these rods can be found here:
http://www.compstarcomponents.com/connecting_rods.htm
I honestly think that our rods are one of the best values in a quality connecting rod available. There are very few applications where I would be hesitant to use them.

I've been running Crower rods in my 408 N20 motor for over 2 years now without any problems. It makes 500RWHP on motor and 750RWHP on the bottle. Well over 100 1/8th mile passes made.

i've got pro-mods in my turbo motor, probably 30 passes, 4000 street miles (quite a few under boost), and held up to 900 lb-ft tq. on a mustang dyno!

Are these still in the ball park price wise?

last time i ran across anything connected to callies, i could have damn near bought a short block for the price of just their rods

i expect quality parts to cost more but, hell $4000 for a set of sbc rods!

the Compstar rods are ~$600. Very well worth it IMO.

lol....
I'm not sure where you got a quote for a set of rods for $4000..... Several years back, Callies sold their Pro-I rods for around $800, and the Compstar rods sell for less than $600, as mentioned above. Those are the only rods Callies has ever sold as a "house brand".

Thumbs up

All the rods will work but the Callies and Eagle are the best for the money. I have seen the billet Pro Mods bend several times on NOS engines.

All of these rods are basically overkill and 90 percent feature gigantic 7/16 ARP capscrews but that's better than underkill I guess. The Callies even come stock with ARP2000 rod bolts.

I have Crower rods in my 402. Crower doesn't get much attention here but they make a very good rod.

Here's some info.http://www.crower.com/misc/m_cat.shtml

Yes all of Crower's stuff is good but usually pricier. I have seen their lightweight rods bend as well. Again it's on crazy NOS stuff.

Same here Erik, Ive seen 2 sets of the Lunati pro mods & pro billets break right in the middle as well as other sets bend. Used hundres of sets mindyou, but still will never use them again. My choice is Compstar for normal builds, and Olivers for the crazy guys!

Carrillo and Lentz rods are the best...if you have the money to put into an engine.

Otherwise, Compstars are good for the money.
