Default Installing 4.00" sleeves into an LS1

I'm looking into getting and LSx instead of rebuilding and modifying my current SBC. The problem is the only one I can really afford is the LS1. I want to be able to upgrade to the L92 heads though this winter when I can save up funds again. From reading, the L92 heads only work on LSx blocks with a 4.00" bore or more right? Are you able to install a 4.00" sleeve into an LS1 block? If so, what would that cost and who can do it?

I just want to be sure I can do it before I pull the trigger on the first LS1 I find that's within my budget, lol.

Thanks!

Short answer, no.

Start with an LS2 instead.

Oh man, for real? Well that right there puts me out of the LSx game for another while because LS2's are twice and LS1

What I meant was, the L92 won't fit an LS1. Though I am not sure about a re-sleeved LS1, what I *am* sure of is that it will cost a lot more to do it that way.

Start with an LS2 block

Start with an LS2 block as it already has the needed 4inch bore(the onlything thats holding you back from running thoes heads). You can always go with trickflows.

LQ4 Iron block. Cheaper then an LS1, and 4.0 bore.

i looked into it, your way better off just starting with an iron block because its a lot cheaper and a lot stronger

A new LS2 will be cheaper than sleeving an LS1.

Default 4" bore

Use an LS2 block as Jason from Katech and several others recommended. It is much lighter than the LQ4 iron block plus it can be sleeved at a later date to bore sizes up to 4.185" dry liner and 4.200" wet liner.

Darton used to have MID sleeves made for a 4" bore for the LS1, but they no longer carry them. Everyone now wants at least a 4.125" bore. In any case, it would be prohibitively expensive for you to go the MID route in an LS1 by the sound of things.

Your best bet would be to purchase either a complete LS2 engine with L92 heads or a short block with pistons notched for the L92 valve locations from one of the sponsors. That would be less expensive than trying to do everything yourself.
