Getting some cruising and commuting miles on the car I noticed a slight surge/bubbling/rough spot at around 16-1700RPM. No biggie. Ed and I exchanged a few PM's and he emailed me a modified tune. I loaded it up last night and drove the car this morning. This tune is done in SD and with heavy air and 47-48 degree outside temp. It seems to have done the trick!

It probably wouldn't have bothered most people but in keeping with the "wolf in sheep's clothing" theme of the car, I knew Ed would want to make it perfect.

I'll do some more logging when I get time and send those to Ed to take a look at.

Thanks Ed! UDAMAN!

Hey peg leg. Dust has settled with more driving time on the cruiser. Can we get an update on the motor and drive train. I think I need a new clutch, so that must mean my engine is bad to

Hey Phil,

Getting hot down there yet??

The car is running great. All the oil stays inside the engine, M12 tranny and diff so that's good. The Spec 3+ has about 1k miles on it and it just keeps getting better. Smooth engagement and easy to drive even with the aluminum flywheel. I'm hoping that some of the Vette guys will setup another track rental at MIR. I want to make a couple of easy runs.

I drive it anywhere I want including the stinking DC rush hour and it's no more difficult than a stock manual Vette. We're planning a trip as soon as Joan finishes her "stuff". Maybe Cape Cod or down to Myrtle again. I keep waiting for the PS2's to go away so I can try something softer. At least now the roads have warmed up so I can now get some traction in 3rd.

Let me know when you come into town and I'll let you take it for a spin. That is just a figure of speech...

I just read this whole thread in the last 4 hours or so. Thanks for all the hard work and sharing the results. I will be doing an l92 top end on the lq4 I plan on putting in my 94 s10.
Very nice build. Any idea on current gas mileage? Just curious if it changed with the current 427?
Thanks,
Kory

Thanks Kory,

It looks like the 427 may actually be getting 1-2MPG more than the 403 - go figure. That could just be a function of the M12 keeping the car in the sweet spot. I can of course get it into the low single digits...

Thats amazing. I hope to build something with simular results on a much smaller scale. I am sellecting parts for a 6 liter lq4/L92 based daily driver that will hopefully make 400whp/400wtq and be something of a "gentelmans hauler" in my s10
Thanks for the inspiration and all the knowledge.

Picked up a dead miss and a rattle on the way home last night. Pulled the valve covers this morning and found a broken YT Ultralight rocker. It's the intake rocker. It broke off the PR seat area. I found the steel insert for the pushrod but not the larger piece that broke off. I'll try to get some pics up later. I guess I'll go back to stockers with the trunion upgrade. CRAP!!!

Sorry to hear that Kevin, that sucks. I hope YT stands behind their product, its not like you are running a crazy cam.

There is more to a cam than just duration. For all you know he's running a properly designed cam for the size of intake valve. I'm sure Shawn didn't spec something with super agressive ramp rates, but I'd guess his cam isn't your typical .600" lift cam. .650-.680" lift is my guess with a nice curtain area to get the massive intake ports to really work. Either way hope you get the thing back on the road and everything is ok. He has .700" lift springs for a reason

I know the numbers for his cam, but thanks for the input. Still should not have broken a rocker.

Their warranty looks good for their part but not for the other issues their broken part may have caused or the labor involved

Copied from their site:
What is the warranty on rockers?

Perfectune engineering, the manufacturer, reserves the right to examine any goods under claim and shall be the sole judge of the validity of each and any claim and repair, replace goods at our sole discretion. duration and lift don't mean **** when it comes to valvetrain.Since you don't know the ramp rates-it would be very hard to say what the problem is.

To be honest-it doesn't surprise me that the rocker broke.I've seen broken rockers from less aggressive ramps.

Bummer. Seems pretty tough to beat the stock rockers on LS engines all the way around. Im still not completely sold on the trunion upgrade hence this post. Are you guys certain the Comp trunions are a more durable solution than stock?

Anyone care to elaborate? Im still on the fence on whether or not to put them in my build

I've looked hard for the missing piece. I tool a wire and fished around by the stud - nada. I can see the lifters so it's not there....

Here's a pic.

How any manufacturer could cover subsequent damage caused by a $400 to $500 part is beyond me. That is pretty much unheard of in the performance parts industry.

Kevin - hope the missing piece shows itself without too much trouble, and hope you get her back on the road soon!

Interesting the way it broke. Not a metalurgist, but it looks like a flaw/weakness in the casting. Just by the way it broke.

That's a pretty big piece to go missing...........

Looks to me like they didnt design them with enough meat in that area. Pretty thin walls considering the massive stress and load they must endure

I think it's probably multiple pieces. I want to make sure I find enough to reconstruct the rocker.
