Default My Comp spec'd L92 cam

Well I had to stop beating around the bush on getting this cam spec'd out through sifting through old posts, pm's, etc. Thanks to all the L92 guys (and some non-L92 but very wise nonetheless) who gave me advice, pointed me in the right direction, etc.

I called Comp to spec me out a cam for my motor. It is a 402 LS2 with -14cc dished pistons at 5 out of the hole. It has unported L92 heads with dual springs, heads are milled to 63ccs. I have a .040 cometic on the way as we speak.

The cam they gave me was a 236/248 with .602/.615 on a 112LSA. This is much smaller than the originally 25x/25x grind I was looking at. I'm hoping to get my compression close if not to right on 11:1. I'm not sure how to factor in DCR, but I imagine it will be much better than the original route I was taking.

I'm not looking to break any records powerwise. This is a college kid's daily driver. However, I would like to see anywhere from 470-480rwhp while retaining some street manners. I'm aware the DCR will not be perfect and that some low end grunt might not be there, but I have a 4400 stall. When the 10 bolt bites the dust in, oh, a week or so, I'll be looking into a 3.90 or a 4.10 gear ratio. The car's going to be Ed Wright tuned locally so hopefully he'll be able to help me rape every last hp out of the beast.

What are your all's thoughts on this cam? Any number guesses? Hopefully this will work out like I'd like it to. If not, in 6 months or so I'm sure someone will have this head/cam combo nailed to wall. Maybe even a more affordable, street manner oriented sheetmetal intake will be on the market

That should be a very manageable cam with street manners and get you where you want your HP #'s to be. You might also think about running a 1.8 ratio rocker on the exhaust side.

Since you asked..I'd run a 234-240 112 +0. You can make 500RWHP and 466 RWT and the car will drive like stock.

If you had to guess, how much "more" would you go with this cam, in the same L92 combo, but with a 427 bottom? Just hypothetical, of course, not like I'd be doing anything like that. For a few weeks. Short weeks.

For an application that has to maintain nice street manners I would recommend a similar cam. Perhaps add 2º of intake duration and subtract 2º of exhaust duration to make something like 236º/238º. Keep the 112ºlsa. Again it really depends on how civilized you want the engine to run at low rpms.

Why do you say that? Didn't Dame just make pretty good power with a cam similar to this? I am not trying to start anything. I am just wondering.

Remember, he has stock L92s, so a wider split will help. However, it'd be better on a 114 or 115.

Default 235/248 114+2

I'm getting a cam from Thunder Racing. 235/248 114+2 with over .640/600 lift for my 402. I hope to see the cam in about 2 weeks. I would have been alot sooner but thinks between myself and Thunder got mixed up.

My L92 heads are at a local guy getting the bowls and exhaust cleaned up and milled .030.

I sent the throttle body off to get it ported/polished eariler this week.

I'm gettin exicted!!!!!!!!!

Well all parts will be in Monday and ready to go next week.
Question, I'm getting my car dynotuned at Ed Wrights shop. Can he do a custom mail order tune so I can drive it to him or should I just have it towed there?

If I am not mistaken DAME's cam was a 236/246. The cam(248/268) I was referring to is much bigger. With a cam that size, he is going to be fighting the intake mani. disposition to peak at a lower rpm. I am not saying that he will not make good power, IMO just not as much of an increase as he is hoping for. Just my $.o2

EDIT: I just noticed that he changed the specs in his post. Please disregard previous statement about intake manifold

why are people saying to use a 114 to 115 lob? isn't it the higher lca(114 115) the higher in the rpm the power will peak out. we are looking at a 246 258 111 or 112 lob and as much lift as i can get like in the 640-650lift range

IMO it is not so much the LSA, it is the overlap. That much overlap on these heads you get a lot of air just being sucked in the intake without being actually "combusted. By putting the cam on a wider lsa you are decreasing overlap.
