No, it's the same. It just has a silencer baffle that covers the top and makes it look different.

Thanks for answering that question. I've been wondering that forever it seems like.

If you put a big enough cam with the right amount of duration it will make power. But you need to keep the valves open the correct amount of time to allow all that displacement to draw enough air in. I'm thinking it's going to take a good deal of testing trial and error to find the right cam for these heads on different displacements. A cam that works good on a 376 most likely won't work as good on a 408. In fact it might be too restrictive and hinder making any power at all.

Much more important. Cam timing is what makes these heads work. They are much different than a standard cathedral head. If you put this same cam in a larger displacement engine, it would make more power at a lower rpm. I can bet you that this cam is not anywhere near as large as what most people think. This situation is the very reason that LG and some of the other top shops keep their grinds secret. They are ahead of the learning curve on making these heads work, and they want to keep it that way.

Guys, we have been working on these style heads for over 3 years now. I have been slammed and really not able to get a tune in it yet, but the guys at HP Tuners have us covered and I know Rick at Synergy will help with that process. He is good with HPT

The car is amazingly fast. 70-100 is insane now that I have more seat time in it. You can feel the PCM making adjustments, and you can fool it into a decent timing table part throttle. Sad when it is faster part throttle.

As for cam size, its fairly large, but lets not forget, we are working with 374 cubes, so it soaks it up compared to a 346. Surging is really minimal, only evident in 6th gear below 1500, and thats with the stock tune.

I hope to get some form of baseline in it today and I will keep you updated

Louis, good stuff man. Question: how different are the LG "L92/LS3" specific cams compared to the G5X series. More specifically, would my G5X3 114 work well with L92/LS3 heads on a stock LS2 shortblock?

I look forward to seeing the "tuned" results!!

Thanks!
Jason

Jason, the X3 works well. We have had a few customers with X3 cam only C6s, and don't want to tear down the rest of the engine during the head swap.

Thanks for the reply Louis! I've searched and searched various forums for anyone running the G5X3 with L92 heads and found nothing.

What kind of power are they making (on average) with the G5X3? Thanks for ANY info....you are the only one that seems to know this combo. It would be great if I could reuse my existing cam (if it wont kill too much power).

Cmon Louis, we all want to see what the car will do with a tune in it. I know you can't wait to go full throttle the next time you drive it. We all know how busy the shop is, keep up the good work.

Still waiting on the heads to be ported. That's my guess. I know personally how busy that shop gets. Sit back and wait a minute, Louis will have something for us to sink our teeth into soon enough.

I ran into a guy with one of these and he goes "I don't think you want some of this; 575 horse power" it was bone stock. I asked him what motor was in it and it took him awhile to tell me.. then said ls3.

Looking forward to the tune results. efilive has full 08 LS3 support out too now so things should be moving along nicely with development on the L92/LS3 heads.
Should be nicely timed for a certain 5th Gen to arrive in 18 months time

Is there tuning software available for this engine yet, if not when will it be available?

Tom
