Default 454 LSX is running couple of problems

Well it runs and it is crazy. Even at part throttle (didn't get on it for the initial drive too much) it is amazing, it pulls much much harder than the 388 all bore, and VERY responsive and revs fast doesn't feel like I lost anything with the longer stroke.

If anything on the street it maybe overkill...there it is, I said it ,I'm a *****

Couple of problems though, one I still don't have the knock sensors figured out I have one in the passenger side of the block but do not see any place for it on the drivers side except possibly where the header runs along side the block and gets in the way.

More importantly I have no signal to the tach. I'm a little concerned about the conversion harness. Where does the PCM pull the rpms from?

Thanks to LME for all the help and putting up with my crazy questions! Between them and my friend Mike (mickey 97 m6 on the board) I don't think I could have tackled this project, New engine, kmember, transmission, clutch, exaust etc etc etc.

I'll post vids and hopefully dyno numbers soon, they will be from a mustang dyno but its the same dyno I had my 388 on so I can compare!

The knock sensor can go basically wherever you want it. I've put em in heads, and in blocks. no experience with the LSX block, but you should be able to drill and tap one of the existing bolt holes, to the size needed for the KS.
The tack signal comes from the PCM. If you havent got an answer by tomorrow morning, I'll be at my shop, and can pull you a wiring diag or two, to crossover to figure it out. I'll need year/make/model of the car, and then all the info on the conversion harness/PCM, etc.

Yes, the car is pretty nasty, even un-tuned. From the short drive last night, it seems very responsive, has a great idle, and is VERY deep sounding. The idle is actually pretty mild, but you can just tell it isn't a typical heads/cam LS1 lurking under the hood.

I'm glad to have gotten the opportunity to help out with a project of this caliber. Can't wait to get this thing up to snuff for driving. You essentially have a brand new drivetrain from the LSX 454 back to the 9" rear. And it even has my Fikse's lol...

Here's to another (nearly) completed "Moton Tuner" car. I think we need to incorporate my name in there somehow....

Thanks guys, hopefully will get it aligned today and the get the brakes fixed tomorrow evening. Then I need to figure out the crank position sensor problem for the tach, install the wideband, tune it then take it to the dyno for numbers and fine tuning. hopefully will have a completed dialed in running setup end of next week.

If you have a Katech knock sensor / cam sensor harness just take the end that plugs into the factory harness and switch the A and C wires in the harness (leave the middle one in the same location). We have had some that were backwards and it makes the car hard to start and has no tach signal.

Good luck,
Brian

That sounds like my car, I thought maybe I was flooding it, it would be such a pain to start sometimes.

This is some pretty serious information (thank you BTW) for a Plug and play harness. Do you have this information posted somewhere I just didn't see it???

Funny, the owner of the shop that installed mine brought up the exact same thing early today.
I would check out the harness, as I might be having to do the same thing when I start mine up!

Yup, had the same issue here with the harness, just make sure that you don't cut the wires, because you can take them out of the plug and then put them back in. You need a needle to accomplish this, and just stick it in the plug end, and there is a metal flap that you have to lift up and then the wire comes out. Just look at it carefully and you'll be good to go!

SWEET thanks guys!!!!!!!!!! Switched the wires today using a modified paper clip and the car started RIGHT up and after about 10 seconds my tach started working and I have a NASTY loping 900rpm idle. The whole car shakes and sounds pretty mean. I have to wait until Saturday for the alignment its driving me crazy.

Still have to figure out the knock sensors, have to say the mail order tune from wait4meperformance is pretty amazing in the driveabilty. I'm curious to see a scan from the car and see how close it is.

you don't need an alignment to power brake it

I'm going to a ported FAST 90/90 setup if the TB shows up early next week I should have tuning and numbers first week of October. On a side note I did get the alignment and brakes done, car is great, very mild setup. Imagine a LS6 clutched 228 duration cam only car until you mash the pedal and then even untuned it gets on it pretty good. 10-80 is ridiculous, it probably Revs FASTER than my short stroke 388 did.

Although I can't help but wonder if at this level a cut out wouldn't be a bad idea....
