550rwhp??
I am looking for 550rwhp. Right now i have a bolt on lt1, I plan to build a blower or turbo motor or switch to a big cube lsx style motor. I know to make the number i want it will require a built motor and 10-15psi roughtly costing 15k when your all said and done using a lt motor.
My question is with 15k could i build a 408 or 416 that would put down the same numbers as the boosted lt motor? I know the conversion costs are around 3-4k which would leave me with 12k roughly to build a lsx motor.
Is this possible? I know the l92 and ls7 are great flowing heads and i would be using one of the two, but could i stay in budget?
If you guys were building a motor with a 550rwhp goal what would you go with? I know a decent amount about lsx motors but not enough to pick out a setup. Help please.

You can get there with a 454 and a decent cam. Some guys are probably doing with smaller motors but not very streetable. Now that I think about it, if you had an LS7 motor (427) with stock heads and intake, ported throttle body, long tubes, aggressive cam and underdrive pulley you could get there.

a 427 or 441 with an ls7 topend and a decent cam will get you easily over the 550 rw number with an m6. the motor alone will probably come in around 9-10k give or take alittle . you will also weigh less since you are going to an aluminum block and the supercharger setup weighs quite a bit as well but either way you should be over 550.

Well you could get a good budget 427 short block i have seen em with forged rotating assemblies for around 5500 or so, then the LS7 topend figure 3-4000 and the wiring and computer for a LS motor your about 1000 if that. Done and with a Qm600 cam, very streetable, your gunna be well over your goal. Plus like stated above the weight difference of the aluminum block and no charger setup you'll be alot lighter as well. Lighter equals faster

I never even thought about the weight differneces. Good point, are you guys sure i can build a motor so cheap? I was on katech's site and their 427's is 23k. I also looked at victory racing and other places but cant find a complete motor for under 15k. Is this going to be a problem?
Will i save money buying a shortblock and a top end seperate?

check with some of the sponsors like tsp, speed inc or sdpc just to name a few. most have good 427-454 ci shortblocks in the 5900-6500 range . you can either get pistons designed for the ls7 heads and use the ls7 topend or just as good go with something like the tfs 235-245 heads, fast 90/90 and decent cam for great power.
check some of vengeances dyno results and maybe call them for a price on a longblock.

With your intended budget you absolutely can see 550rwhp NA(if not more), and not neccesarily with "big" cubes.
FWIW, my L92 416" Vengeance stroker went 550/505 on a "small" duration, sub 0.600" lift cam with a FAST 90/bolt ons.
Call around/talk to different sponsors.....

well i was also looking for 550rwtq, and as far as the motors i guess i should shoot for 600rwhp huh? I wasnt aware of 408's putting down that much power at the tire. I assumed you would need more cubes and bigger heads.
Mikey- those numbers with the pump gas 427, how streetable would that cam be. Im guessing its more towards racecar than streetcar?

Building the hp on pump gas with a 408 isnt the problem. The problem is building it for a price people can afford. The other is to make it as streetable as possible. We are cuurently working on different camshaft profiles to get it as streetable as possible at the 600rwhp mark. The finished product should be done soon.Keep an eye on the sponsor projects, ill have some pics and results soon.
