will 853 gaskets work on LS2???
i pulled the 853 heads from my LS1 with the stock gasket. sold them to a guy with a LS2. he called me back saying they wouldnt work because he would need to shave alot off to make it work because he needs to use MLS gaskets.
he said something about the stock gasket imprinting the head and needing to shave like .07 off to make it work with the gasket? whats the deal with this? he ended up with 241 heads. i didnt think there was any difference between the 853 and 241 other than the sand cast vs die cast thing?

853 and 241 are the same, casting difference u mentioned is correct. what he is talking about is cleaning the gasket surface on the heads and with a good 3m buffing pad there will not be problems of leaking. he just needs to clean the surface not shave anything off unless they are warped.

here is what he said...does it make more sense now? i always thought the 853and 241 heads were exact minus the casting process.
the 853 heads have a casting piece in them for the old graphite gaskets and wont work with the new MLS gaskets without leaking and they dont make a graphite gasket for the 6.0L

The 853 heads have a notch on the bottom of the deck sealing surface that will cause a coolant leak when using MLS gaskets. Without welding the deck and resurfacing the heads, the 853 heads will NOT work with MLS. The graphite gaskets can be used on later engines, though there's not much reason to.
