If somebody had to buy a new cover it's probably best to shoot for the one with the technically correct cam sensor in it. (If that part number is even still available).
But the 2007 LS2 front cover with the 4x cam sensor will work with the old 2005 LS2 2x cam gear.

This will work with 2005 LS2 cam sprocket 12576407 and produce the same cam signal as an LS1 would.
It will also work with a 2006+ cam sprocket 12586481 and produce a 4x cam signal.
anyone also notice that the stock LS2 cam chain is on the loose side or do I need to use a chain damper ?
couldnt use a double chain on the LSX block as it hits the cam plate bolts errrrr
