Question LQ9 question?

Okay, I've found an LQ9 block I was looking to get to start a project on my 98 Trans Am.

What I am wondering is if the LQ9 and LS2 are the same, other then the difference between iron and aluminum?

I was reading on a site about the LQ9 and what I got out of it was that they are almost the same motor only one is iron and one is aluminum, then my computer shut down, and I've not a clue what site I was on, so I'm asking here.
Hopefully someone can help me.

It would be much appreciated. Thanks Guys.

No, they are not close. The LQ9 will take the LS1 stuff... Like engine covers.. the LS2 will not. SDPC sells a kit for the LS2 covers though. This is why we like the LQ9 so much, best bang for the buck. 4.030 bore as opposed to 4.005 and less expensive due to the covers if you already have an ls1. It is 75 lbs more how ever.

You can just go to your browser history to find it back again but was it this site? http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...all_block.html

There is the LQ4 to look at too, aren't the LQ4 and the LQ9 the same except for the higher compression heads on the LQ9?

Interesting article but they dont state the differences enough and really just consider them no exsistent... but they are there and they point them out in bits and peices.
They are wrong as well about the best bang for the buck. AT $350 more for the alumnium block it is not better or more powerful. The LQ9 can be bored to 4.030 and the ls2 not. Bigger bore equals more HP and the 75 lb difference can be lessened with other mods as well.

Unlike the LS1/LS6 and the LQ9 block, there are no bosses for the dual knock sensors in the valley pan; instead they're placed on the side of the block. Also, if you're using an older LS1/LS6 processor, be sure to use the correct knock sensors, as the LS2 knock sensors feature a two-wire design over the previous one-wire setup and are incompatible with the LS2 processor.
How is that the same? Poorly written article IMO. Luincati stroker kit?? Like that wasnt wasted money... typical chevy high performance article... just trying to pump a sponsor..Lunati and Dart get press ...

If you cant get intake seals though your dealer Turn Key can provide them for you...LMAO!

What we have here is someone devising an article to sell advertising space.

The pistons are the only difference in the LQ4 (9.4:1 -6 cc dish piston) LQ9 (10:1 flat top piston) The LQ4 is a lot easier to find. The 317 heads are the same.

The iron blocks usually don't have an accessory bolt hole drilled and tapped at the front of the block as well. Just one of those little things to remember before the engine goes in the car.

well I've found a perfect LQ9 block for 150 bucks. Pulled from an 05 vehicle and only had about 23k on it. He pulled it to use it for another project but decided to but an ls6 bottom block.

I'm just wondering if the LSX parts would fit on the LQ9? I'm looking to make this motor mad crazy, and I was wondering if it would be worth it?

Yes, I know the iron block is approx. 75lbs more then the aluminum, but I'm willing to take that risk.
I just need to know the pro's and con's on this LQ9 versed with the LS2?

the lq9 is different threw out the years i got a 02 i think it was lq9 for my build so it was basically a ls1 block but bigger bore, still has the crank sensor on the side of the block, but didnt have the hole for the alternator bolt, no biggie drill and tap

the o2 sensors still went in the same location as the ls1 and im using ls1 front and rear covers

okay, well its an 05 LQ9.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=150257008558

that's the link to the listing, now I know half of you guys don't like buying from ebay, but I'm looking at this because its cheap and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it, and if there is I'm willing to fix it.

It looks like most of the LSX stuff will fit on it. But I'm not sure, thats why I ask
