Default Best exhaust manifolds for 1968-72 A fitment

My L84 manifolds have this weird kick out to them, may interfere with steering - what are other options, ie. Camaro LT1 bits...

Default Manifolds

The 2016-2022 Camaro SS should work well and Holley does make some as well. I used the factory manifolds and modified them to work on my M3 LT1 swap.

them with V-bands not to mention they a low cost and plentiful.

I ordered a take-off set from eBay. Where did you get the V-band ends?

Thanks, the flat header flanges are bulls**t.

L84 with LT1 header manifolds. Almost 3" less span.

Have you tried truck manifolds? They tuck in pretty tight.

Yes, the engine came with the truck units.

I think the LT1 factory headers are the way to go here. I won't be able to reuse my Zee bar though.

As you can see the passenger side LT1 header runs head on into the A-arm rear mount.
It would take a sizeable amount of modding to clear.

The factory L84 (truck) manifolds are worse. The flanges span is about and inch too wide to fit inside the frame rails - so they are out.

I ordered a set of Hooker manifolds, part # BHS516. Hopefully they clear, another Summit customer noted they cleared his 72 Chevelle.
If not I will need to revisit modifying the headers.

I do not think they can work with the stock clutch Z-bar.

Default LT1 Manifold

I think you could cut that manifold off above a couple of inches above the flange and get some 2.5" tight radius mandrel bent tube and turn it away from the a-arm mount. That's what I had to do both sides as well as some of the primary tubes on the drivers side on my E46 M3 LT1 swap. Good luck!

The Hooker manifolds came in today - they look to be very well thought out units Only issue is the factory Z bar will not work

Pix show the motor mounted 1" forward of stock.

I modded the passenger side LT1 manifold, cut it at an angle then reversed it 180 degrees and tacked it back together.
My friend will see if it fits his 1968 Chevelle SS with 6.2 and Whipple. His combo sits higher as the pan on his 8L90E is quite low.
It cleared in my 71 fine when positioned as his engine is.
