Fr8Train, have you read the codes? We can help. If you don't have a code reader, Autozone will scan them for free. Just post up either the code numbers or the description.

Found a car that I'm going to see about trading the Trans Am for. Going to call in the morning an find out more about it... GOD I HOPE THIS WORKS OUT!!!!! Wish me luck everyone!

Actually, yeah i have a video of it from the guy I got it from, but it's only a recording from the top of the motor and it was much louder under the car right by the trans. It's nice pulling this thing a part and finding everything so clean and recently done. But not figureing out this noise blows chunks. Can't imagine putting it back together and it still makes that noise. I have no clue how to post that video, but I can email it to ya.

do you know if it's the OEM convertor ? an aftermarket ? OEM convertors are 12" diameter. flexplate cracks/hairline fractures should be readily visible. Have you drained the fluid ? Residue buildup in the pan ? Filter element look clean ?

Yeah, it looks like it would be a stock convertor, 12 inch dia. only number I can see on it is 2467, no cracks or hairline fractures, fluid was nice and clean, filter was clean. It really looks like someone just went through all this. Looking for a stall convertor but I only have about 250 bucks to spend on that right now. Might just park it for a week or two and save up. I was hoping to make it to the track tomorrow night or friday night to run this thing.

I'll check on that 2467 number. How high a stall do you want to go ? 2400-2800,you could probably get away without a supplementary cooler,3000 and above,gotta start thinking cooler,the higher the stall,the bigger the cooler. heat,stalls create heat,destroys trannys. 3000-4000 seems to be consensus for performance. OEM stall is 1800.
