Default new SS owner

Hey, I'm new to the site and figured I mightaswell introduce myself. My name is Karsten and I'm 19 year old guy from Canada. I just got my 2000 SS about a month and a half ago. I'd been looking and reading and dreaming about a 98-00 LS1 Camaro for about 3 years waiting until I turned 19 as that's the age I was allowed to have my own car (rule established because my sister got a car on her 19th birthday, a Saturn hehehe). So for 2 months before my birthday I was on autotrader.com and various other sites almost everyday going through thousands of Camaros, followed up on a couple but they didn't work out. So my birthday came and went and I was still without my Camaro, and I started getting desperate, broadened my search to LT1s and even looked at a couple Mustang GTs. Then about 330 one friday afternoon I find a 2000 Camaro SS near Boston, Carfax it, talk to the dealership, sounds good so me and my dad leave home and 945 that night to go take a look at it. Drive all night in the 95 diesel Golf and get there at 830am, look it over, test drive it and buy it. And after 20 days or formalities (including leaving it with US customs for 72 hours so they could check the title and waiting 10 days for the Canadian certification so I could register it) I finally had my 2000 Camaro SS and am still amazed by the power everytime I touch the throttle. Anyway this is me and that's my story, I apoligize for length. I've already learned a ton reading these forums and look forward to learning a whole lot more about this wonderful beast of an engine.

Karsten

That sounds like quite a bit of stuff to go through for the car. Hopefully that means that you will take care of her and not dog it like some people. Cograts on the perchase and see you around. The modding bug is hiding everywhere.

Thanks. During those 10 days waiting for registration all I could do was wash it and start it for my friends. I would also spend long periods of time sitting outside looking at it with a big smile on my face. haha

thats awesome man congrads......im glad you had to go through a bunch to get that SS cuz now you will take all the more care of it b/c you knwo how hard they are to come by in your situation.....its a nice feeling to not have to do anything in that car....why waste gas when you kno you will win once again congrads and now before you post your next post let me answer your question....slp lid 100, get a bellow or do the fernco mod (search), do all the free mods (installuniversity, ls1howto.com etc.) then get some pacesetter Lts (long tube headers) and a nice Y pipe and find your self a good sounding cat back (ls1sounds.com has it all) then maybe a underdrive pulley and a good set of tires for the track and you will have yourself a even meaner monster....once you get that far then well talk bout the good ****...n2o, h/c, etc.

Thanks man and thanks for the input. I wanna get a lid, not sure if I want SLP but it's probly the best way to go, smooth bellows seems like a no brainer. I wanna buy and install some Jet Hot LTs, Y pipe and QTEC cutouts before the cats during my winter break. Funds will determine if I can do that and I need to find out if I can fit the QTECs before the cats. I was thinking about Mickey Thomson Drag Radials but don't see the point until I get some more power and especially a 9" rear. Also like to get FAST intake manifold and throttle body a little while down the road, and Edelbrock Lingenfelter heads and camshaft alot further down the road. That's pretty much my plan hahaha, I am considering getting the Edelbrock camshaft earlier though, depending how much it would hurt gas mileage.

Thanks and congrats on the 96 SS, don't see alot of those around. I'm a big fan of that front end with the SS hood, it just looks so sharp and aggressive. I like to hear about other people who had to put in a lot of time to find their Camaro aswell.
