ok I will say hi to everyone and look forward in getting some good info from this site.

i am dencent mechanic it is what do for living in the navy and i own a 1988 535is
bmw 5s. I am picking up a 2001 5.3l long block out of a thaoe. I know that they share alot with the ls1 aluminum engines and power is easy for these motors. so my questions right now are. transmissons that is what I am looking for right now. i have a good idea on the rest of the swap that I am going to need but I really need help with trannys fitting to the block and holding the power I want. right now I would like to carberate the engine just for simplcity and later way later get some boost and standalone computer. but this is the plans and yes the car in my signature is me in my car. thanks look forward with all the help

Welcome to the site dude.

I dont have all the experience in the world with ls1's but ive tinkered around with some friends cars and found that the edelbrock carb. kit works wonders and its like you said, simple...only down side is theres no distributor for the timing haha, and a 4l60e is a good tranny out of trucks they handle decent amount of power to, plus there cheap to come by.

yeah I heard the edelbrock kit is good. I heard of a timming box for the kit to control your sprack so it should be pretty easy for right now just trying to get it in the car. the kicker is now I want to use a manual tranny not any auto matic so any info on tremec is useful

alright then you could go with the BW 6 speed or do a Tremec T56 from a vette viper or any f-body as long as the bellhousing will mate up to it. Heck you could buy a used POS one and have it rebuilt with a viper input shaft, cheap and you know it will handle goobs of torque
