hi guys, incredibly dumb question but
i am new to the forums, hoping to pick myself up an F-body, but i have a rather large problem.
I owe almost 13k on my 2005 Civic i currently drive. With the gas prices the way they are, people will call me crazy, but i really REALLY want an f-body.
Long story short, am i screwed on my civic? or is there any way i can unload that thing without being in hella debt. I'm 23 years old and not even sure how all of this financing goes... boy, learned my lesson too late >_<.
It's a 2005 EX 5-speed. 2 door coupe, silver or (charchoal) as some would say? :-\
P.S. hello to all!

i appreciate the quick help. what if i was to go to a dealer, one that had an F-body Lt1/LsX... would they screw me? i mean i would definitely bring up the fact that my car i have now gets great mileage and F-bodys aren't in as high of a demand... but ahhhh, such a headache, i'm a dumbass!

well the dealer will give you substantially less figure than what you could get privately, you could probably trade the honda straight for the f-body and maybe 2k but then that still leaves you 11k in the hole.

so it would be like making my current payments only driving the f-body? I feel like such a moron, thanks for all this help. With the insurance jump too that probably wouldn't be my best solution.

it's my 3rd car actually, but yes.... as much as i love my mpg and the sound of my civic hitting 60 in 9 seconds... i can't do it anymore hah. I figured with gas prices the way they were, i could maybe snag one for less than usual cost.

ok im gonna take a crack at this because ive been hosed by dealers and finance company's before but its WAY past my bedtime so forgive me if its confusing
Say KBB on your civic private is 13K and your paying off 13K so if you sold your car outright then you break even
But Say Trade is 9K on the car and they have a (probably overpriced) F body there for 9K so what the dealer would probably do would finance you for 13K to cover the car your buying and paying off the neg equity on your car
my advice to you is civics and mpg cars are in high demand put it in the autotrader and save money incase someone offers you less than what you owe and you want to jump on it and then buy a fbod of the boards or RJ or even Ebay because what a dealer would charge you for a Fbody for the same price you could get something more modded or maybe a SS instead of a Z28 WS6/TA ive seen dealers about a year ago asking 9K for a hammered on 96 Z28 and most lS1 cars i saw would be over 10 with 100K but im in a part of the country were you dont see alot for sale just my .02 hope this helps

thanks for the info!
The more i think about it, the only way i get a different car is if my monthy payment goes up... oh well. I'm still gonna try it! Calling the finance place tomorrow, i saw a nice white camaro Z-28 at a dealer in sarasota i am looking into, it's a 2001 convertable.
FYI I live in Ft. myers, FL

k.. i think 26 is somewhat BS...
Sell the civic privately, the only way to do it. The biggest thing is having your car in detailed/waxed and all. It's amazing how much more you can get out of a vehicle if its clean.

I would definitely find a buyer, rather than trading your car at a dealership. You almost always get more money that way, and it frees you up to find the f-body you really want, and not just what's on the lot somewhere.
I bought my 98 SS for $11500. It's in perfect condition, and has over $8000 in extras. It had around 68000 miles on the clock when I bought it in January.
Good luck! There are deals out there. Just be patient and you'll find what you want.
And don't worry about a huge hit at the pump, as LS1 cars are capable of 27-30 mpg on the highway. Mine ran a best of 12.4 in the 1/4 and sips a gallon of gas every 26 to 27 miles
Let us know what happens!!
