Any reason you are looking for a less than 286 hp aluminum block LS based motor? Just curious. I think some early 5.3's were rated at 285 hp. And I think the LM4 is aluminum but probably rated higher than 286 hp.

Sounds like he's building it for auto cross or something with a HP bracket/limit. The 99 5.3 truck motors were rated at only 270hp, the 01-0? were rated at 295hp, then they got bumped to 315hp I believe, iron block though. The LM4 is an aluminum block 5.3 truck motor but I belive its rated at 295hp.

In order to get the car road legal (in Norway) I can have maximum 286 hp (old BMW).
Seems like the LM4 with 290 hp is the closest I can get with aluminum block.
How much heavier are the cast iron blocks?

Does there exist any documents regarding the emissions for the LM4?

You could always go with a 4.6L Caddy Northstar eninge. The base Northstar was 275hp if I recall correctly, and those are all aluminum as well. Plus a little more advanced, being DOHC engines.

They will need proof that it is the correct engine and then they wil double check it with the serial number and VIN.
